I sure hope the Navy recognizes what you do to help the recruitment process. Awesome information.

I have one question. I am looking into joining the Navy however I am wondering the difference between an end route care nurse and a flight nurse
@itsestelarojas4713 Жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew, flight nurses have more in depth training to include SERE training, and are eligible to earn the flight pin (shiny bling you get to wear on your chest while in uniform). To earn the Enroute Care qualification, it is a 2-week course at Fort Rucker, Alabama.

Hi, your videos are very informative, thank you for that! Few questions... In your first 2-3 years on navy nursing were you presented travel/deployment/humanitarian opportunities? Why did you choose Navy nursing out of the other military branches?
@itsestelarojas47133 жыл бұрын
Hello! I was presented with the opportunity to go on the USS Comfort in support of the hurricane in Puerto Rico within my first two years of being a navy nurse. It got cancelled at the last minute because there were too many people that had already been picked from another hospital. I was devastated because I really wanted to go. I chose navy nursing because I had worked with navy nurses as a corpsman and I really wanted to do it.

I would like to asked do you need to be an nclex passer to join navy corps? Or it would e better if u were an nclex passer. Im a graduate of bsn and would like to join the navy corps. Thank you
@aishacook013 жыл бұрын
I’m in the NCP program about to head off to officer school and you have to pass your NCLEX even before going to officer training. If you don’t pass, they schedule your training to another date.

Thank you for this video! Do you have any advice on how can I get into critical care as a new grad in the NCP?
@itsestelarojas47133 жыл бұрын
Only to keep asking! It helps if you get critical care experience before you join the Navy. If not, just keep asking and trying to get in critical care. Get ACLS, PALS, TNCC.

I have been in the navy before so I have seen how billets have not gone sailors way and they basically get their last choice of a duty station or job. That was in the sub service though so it could be completely different. How does that work for nursing? I am currently in nursing school and the only thing holding me back from joining as an officer is not having any say in where I go.
@itsestelarojas47133 жыл бұрын
Yes, it’s absolutely true that sometimes you don’t get what billet you want. That is the unfortunate downside to being in the Navy. The needs of the Navy/mission come before individual desires. I have to say though, that as an officer, I have seen nurses eventually work where they want to be, even if it’s not right away.

How is promotion like? Is going from an O1 to O2 automatic or do you have to do additional duties to get on the promotion board?
@itsestelarojas47133 жыл бұрын
O1 to O2 is automatic. So is 02 to 03. 04 and up, you need to do additional duties. You do need to do additional duties starting as an 03 to show upward mobility in your duties and responsibilities as well though.

I’m applying for navy ICU nurse. I finish my bachelors in 5 weeks. I was a burn ICU nurse for a year, and currently a MICU nurse for a year (for MICU experience 90% of my patients have been COVID) I would love if you’d cover which locations you’ve worked in the ICU? What it’s like working in a Navy ICU opposed to civilian? If you go overseas (like you are in Japan) do they speak English? Are the protocols/policies similar?
@itsestelarojas47133 жыл бұрын
Hi Erin, I have only worked in the ICU here in Japan. Overall the Navy ICU’s (both overseas and in the U.S.) are lower acuity than civilian hospitals. I have never worked in a civilian ICU so I can’t compare the two based on protocols/policies. The protocols/policies we follow here in Japan are the same as in the U.S. Navy hospitals though. Yes, we speak English at this hospital. It is on an American base so it technically is not Japanese-owned.

Thank you for the information! I’m nervous because I’ve only been a nurse a little under two years (I’ve been in critical care the whole time), but there’s so much I do not know. I learn so much every day. Do you know locations are options for ICU nursing? Btw I love watching your videos they are really informative and make me feel more secure in my decision.
@itsestelarojas47133 жыл бұрын
@@erinrice9271 There are a lot of places to go as an ICU nurse, it’s difficult to list all of them. But the big ones are San Diego, Portsmouth, and Walter Reed.

Are there opportunities for nurse practitioners in the navy? If so, what are their roles? These videos have been so helpful in the discernment process! Thank you so much!
@itsestelarojas47133 жыл бұрын
Yes, there are NP’s in the Navy- FNP, mental health NP, and peds NP. Mental health NPs work in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Peds and FNP’s work in clinics. Thanks for watching!
