The subtitles should definitely be improved - at least for the future. 11:12 "Copy that." I'd never read that before and had to research what it meant. It comes from the military and is used in radio communication. The translator is probably a soldier. 11:36 "Feel better now?" Who is he talking about here? Is he asking himself if he should feel better now or is he asking the other person if they feel better now? Please form complete and clear sentences. School English should be used for subtitles, otherwise the automatic translation will fail and either translate nonsense or at times not show any subtitles at all because it doesn't know how to turn these words into a meaningful translation. ▼ For better subtitles. (The following compilation is the result of over three years of experience with KZbin's automatic subtitle translation. However, the English of the subtitles should not only be improved because of the automatic translation. Even without this, misunderstandings can occur when slang / SMS / messenger / Twitter English is used!) ▼ ■ The first word of a new statement must always start with a capital letter and it is also essential that it always ends with a punctuation mark (period, question mark or exclamation mark)! Both also apply to independent statements which are enclosed in round or square brackets. This also applies to statements that consist of only a single word, so that the translation engine knows that it does not belong to the next statement. (Example: A "No" as a single statement that is moved to the next statement because it does not contain a terminating punctuation mark turns the statement of the actual following statement into its opposite!) ■ If a statement ends with the name of the interlocutor, a comma must be placed before his name. Otherwise, the meaning of the statement is distorted! ■ If statements of different persons are displayed simultaneously in the same subtitle, this must be indicated. For example, with a minus sign: -statement of person A -statement of person B, etc. ■ Don't leave out any words and form proper sentences! Omitting the subject is a disaster, because then the machine has to guess who is meant and of course regularly gets it wrong! (Example: "Do you feel better now?", instead of "Feel better now?") ■ Do not use slang or abbreviations (examples: do not use "cos", "coz" or "cause" instead of "because" or "wdym" for "what do you mean", etc. Instead of "copy that" (very bad) or "get/got it", it would be better to use "understand/understood" and as a complete sentence it would look like this: "Do you understand?"/"Did you understand?" "I understand."/"I have understood."). ■ Always write names in capital letters (like this: DANG) or put them between angle brackets (like this: ), so that they are not translated by the automatic translation. ■ For a motorized two-wheeler, always write motorcycle or motorbike instead of bike, otherwise it will be translated as a non-motorized two-wheeler (i.e. a bicycle with pedals). ■ For contractions such as "don't", "c'mon" and similar, make sure that the apostrophe (') is really used and not the diacritical marks (´ and `) instead, as these often worsen the automatic translation. ■ And of course there should be no spelling mistakes and the sentence structure should be as correct as possible. If some of these things are not observed, the subtitles will either be translated incorrectly, or statements will be mixed into one with those that follow, even if they come from different people. Or the machine doesn't know how to make a meaningful translation out of the incongruous stringing together of words (due to missing punctuation at the end of each statement), so it simply doesn't show any subtitles at all! I prefer to have subtitles in my language, so that I don't have to look up an English word every now and then. ■ Please place notations such as "1 year before/after" between double hyphens: -- -- (like this: --1 year before--) ■ Explanations of terms used in subtitles should be placed in round brackets: ( ) ■ For subtitles that tell thoughts or show what has been written, please place them between square brackets: [ ] If you use a subtitle format that allows formatting, you can use italics instead. But please only if the subtitle format allows this, because otherwise unfortunately the formatting characters are displayed, which then disturbs enormously!
