Abstract: Wellness-promoting societies have existed for millennia. Wellness was actually humanity’s default way of organizing communities and was essential to our ancestors’ survival. “Wellness-informed” means understanding what helps children, adults, and communities thrive. Wellness-informed communities focus on meeting the basic needs of their members. First Nation societies traditionally provided for all basic needs, resulting in thriving adults who understand how to live sustainably in their locales. The San Bushmen, who have been in existence for at least 150,000 years and are presumed to be the conduit for the human genes we all carry, provide a role model for a wellness-informed pathway to thriving individually and socially. Evolved Nest components are particularly important in first few years of life when a child’s neurobiology is being shaped towards a wellness-promoting trajectory of health and sociality, or trauma-inducing trajectory of ill health and self-absorption. But nestedness throughout life supports health and maintains humanity’s evolved cooperative nature.
