I really just love the older sets because it comes with base plates and it looks so much more complete
@greatmomentsofopera71705 жыл бұрын
Lots of sets missing here. And the base plates were so that they could use less pieces and it still be large and built up. This guy suggests they stopped using them because they used too much plastic which could have been used for parts, but it’s much cheaper to create a vacuum formed base plate than build up that volume with bricks, which is why even the biggest sets were far cheaper than today’s big sets. I do totally agree that they used to do fantastic small sets that were often some of my favourites.

I got the enchanted island set for Christmas in 1994, and it was one of the best presents of my life, so much so that I keep it as a treasure until this day. I was 9 years old and I played a lot with it along with my friends. I love those classic pirate sets.

this set was amazing, well built and designed, but the islanders were less cool than pirates or soldiers imo, but still refreshing!

When I was young in the late 80s I had several city, space and castle sets. I suppose that I wanted more and so I wrote a letter to Lego, asking them what new series would be next? One of my suggestions was pirates. Shortly thereafter, I was on a family trip to Europe and I was pleased to see pirates Lego in the stores. I convinced my parents to buy me a small set as a souvenir. Shortly thereafter, I started to see the same sets for sale back home in North America. The turnaround time between my letter and when the pirates series became available was too short for me to believe (even then) that they took my suggestion literally to heart; but I like to think that my letter gave them reason to think that these sets were a good idea. One item I got in Europe on that trip was the same comic discussed in this video. Since I bought it in Finland, the package came with both the Finnish and the English language comics. I also still have a handful of smaller pirate sets that are not shown in this video. 1481: Pirates Desert Island, 6235: Buried Treasure (which actually came part of a 4-set bundle), 6236: King Kahuka, and 6245: Harbour Sentry.

@ashIibabbitt11116 жыл бұрын
The nostalgia factor was so high in this video! I had so many of those sets as a kid! Another reason Lego stopped making the 3D baseplates was because they were flimsy and prone to breaking, and that's why they typically had little built on them because just by building on them you could break them, and if you tried to build something massive on them the weigbt of the bricks alone would begin to warp the baseplate over time. I miss having them because they were an efficient way to add topography to a build, but they were just too delicate to work with. If Lego were to reintroduce them I'd hope they'd make them thicker and more durable.
@kallo1826 жыл бұрын
Dont know what you mean. I got 4 of them. And they are actually very stable. To break one of this you have to jump on it, or walk over it. But when you walk over things like this its you own foult.

Use a makeup brush to dust your sets. If dust is heavy, dismantle every set brick by brick, put them all in lukewarm water with DAWN dish soap. Soak for 20-30 mins. Scrub the pieces gently with a soft toothbrush. Rinse all pieces with lukewarm water through a colander then place pieces to let air dry overnight. If you have a fan, use that. Once you're done, your pieces will be like new ready for display. Use the make up brush to dust everything once a week. If you prefer keeping your minifig stiff, do no soak them in the soapy water. Doing so will make them loose. Passing the makeup brush gently over them a couple times will clean the minute dust particles without scratching the paint or plastic. Hope this helps! This is how I keep my vintage Pirate sets looking like new. Also, keep the white and light gray pieces away from direct sunlight. Good luck!

I'm aware this video is old but claiming this is every pirate set ever made / released is very misleading. Like others have pointed out in the comments below, a lot of smaller sets are no where to be seen here. Some of the smaller sets command some hefty prices nowadays it's insane. The other annoying thing here is the gentleman has a ton of missing parts or incorrect minifigs for all his sets on display. Hopefully we can eventually get a video of someone with an exact 100% collection at some point with accurate information.

Chaplain Agreed. As someone in my 20s I’ve very much moved on from LEGO and have absolutely no interest in all the modern series like Ninjago and whatever the other ones are. If they bought back all these old pirate sets though I would go out and buy everyone of them. All the original sets are either too expensive or too hard to find nowadays.

Lego tried rebooting pirates twice and flopped, but they weren't the same at all. Look at the newer ships, the crossbone skulls on the sails look very childish. The buildings are small and too "modular?", because of the lack of a baseplate, they don't feel like proper bases at all. Though, the imperial flagship from 2010 is probably the best Pirate set ever released.
