I've had a few people I consider family diagnosed with Alzheimer's. It's rough, as their memories collide and interrupt their thoughts. I'd like to think that there is more beyond what we currently know; and I'm just trying to be the best I can be, helping those that I can, and hoping I'll see them again. I know someone has already commented about this, but it's crazy how Apple Jack of all ponies is so connected to the themes of existentialism, not just story-wise, but also thematically. She is a farmer, she sees and participates in the sycle of life, of seasons, more than any other of the main characters! So it isn't surprising for her to also have the most time and reason to think about what her "fall" will be like.

Beyond that, she is a part of a massive extended family, where everyone seems to know each other. Following 'real-life' standards, which is silly for a pony show, but I digress. Applejack has doubtlessly lost a lot of ponies very close to her (Aside from her parents). She's likely learned to cope with grief rather well because of it. I'd like to imagine she channels it into work and compassion for others. Thankfully ponies seem to live well past ~100 or so, with very few ways to die before that number. Still, an interesting way to look at her character. Maybe it explains why she's so stressed about her work constantly, more so than Rarity on occasion.
