People like Paul Potts bring this type of music to people who wouldn't normally listen to it. He has an amazing voice and is such a natural person. I'm sure there are the musical snobs who will put him down. I think he is gifted and long may be reign.

I'm one of those people who would otherwise never listen to opera. It's actually his earnestness, tone of innocence (and probably not really knowing the real meaning of the words -which are actually a bit arrogant?) and his complete lack of pretentiousness that brings the most feeling and power. That's also a commentary on why I generally do not like opera since those who are probably more talented also bring a different attitude/comportment.

I don't understand why one says to all "He/ she is good but is nothing compared to the great". In a way, that is an insult to music itself. When someone says " Now that's a benchmark performance!", or "That's how it should be played or sang", it's in insult to music and makes music look poor. There's millions of ways to play and feel it, not just one.
