Great video! Thank you! I'm a 63 yr old "beginner". This is the best video I've seen on picks yet.

Thank you! This is by far the most informative video I've seen about shaping picks!

You are absolutely right about how the thumb pick can get hung up. It almost happened to me. Today was the first time I picked up my banjo and tried it. Sure enough the thumb pick got caught up in the strings.I'm going to go and heat up a pair of pliers and bend that end in right now. Great video. Thank you for that tip.

Very good and informative video, even though I cringed when you bent the metal picks on the banjo rim because that I had flashbacks having to replace mine from messing it up not too long after getting my banjo new...lol!!! Thanks for the info. It answered every question I had about this part of learning the banjo that I hate. I hate these things but have to learn how to get use to them. Keep up the awesome work!!!

I've definitely noticed the tail-end snag problem with the thumb pick. I'm going to apply your fix right away! Thank you :-)

Wish I could find a place that sells picks that are open or flat like the ones shown at the beginning of the video, every pick I've ever bought was already curved/bent that I've had to re-adjust.

He never replied for a reason. He opened them.

Observation: 50 bucks says he opened the metal picks so as to bend them as if he can make them better.

As a beginner is plastic better than metal for thumb?
@PhilHalt16 жыл бұрын
Kelly, plastic is the “only“ choice for thumb pick in bluegrass banjo playing. I’ve been playing a long time and never saw anybody with a metal thumbpic. Don’t use metal. Good luck.

@@PhilHalt1 Some really good players do use metal for the thumb pick these days. Excellent video, by the way!

Great vid. But why does a banjo player have a dental floss box?

Not sure what they are for, found this one in the garbage.

When this has to be explained ... It's a sign of he dumbed down America has become.
@PhilHalt13 жыл бұрын
Really Mike? Do you know how to play fiddle? With the basic technique for that instrument have to be explain to you? This is just basic technique that a lot of people just don’t know and it doesn’t come naturally, Nor does it come in books. Good luck with your picking and have fun.

Observation: Bending on the skin screams volumes. The appearance is so wrong on on different levels.

I can do this because I am a consummate professional, not recommended for the amateur.😀 if it’s too painful, may I suggest that you don’t look.

@@PhilHalt1 After review no one impressed. FWIW a 6yo could open them like that, flatten and re-form around like a poser. Professional would have been fabricatting a pair. You b.s.'d thru all this. Pliers in hot water. I can think of better ways to apply heat to the tiny area.

@HaltB.S. - "Consumatte" is what the mountain man did to Ned Beatty. In In "Deliverance" that boy was not playing, has never played. Gooogle it. The director was a "consumatte" b.s.'er. B.S. ing others has no place in a wholesome hobby like banjo, and I can usually spot them in life.
