BH Cosmetics Is Back & I Have Thoughts...

BH Cosmetics is finally (!) back after filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy and then being bought by Revolution Beauty and I bought some. This is the brand new travel series quad palettes and we'll try them out to see if they are worth trying out.

I had already assumed the release was planned and produced pre-acquisition. I am also not surprised that BH Cosmetics had resorted to using a less expensive formula towards the end of their initial run. That's why I am waiting to see what they will produce in the future, as this release doesn't reflect a BH Cosmetics that is in their prime. It's a reflection of BH in their downfall. I am excited for the future of this company because I have loved them even before their quality was excellent.

@@AngelicaNyqvist I thought the same about the less expensive formula. That would explain the Moon and Sun palettes' low quality, and the MR look alike image in the Zodiac collection released at the beginning of the year on the German website. I hope MR with the new BH decide to make the previous great quality (last seen, at least kind of, on the Lunar New Year Edit 2022). I still think you should get that one (at Beauty Bay or at TJ Maxx/Marshalls).

The quads look like ‘old’ BH was mid-planning when the buyout happened and ‘new’ BH was like “we have to get something out - let’s run with these!” I DO love BH and hope they do well going forward.

I think all of them except Malibu actually can make complete eye looks on their own IF you're willing to go outside the normal smoky deep corner eye look. I did a sunrise look with just the Miami quad and I loved the look. I did the dark pink on the lid, used the purple shimmer over it, since to me, that's a topper shade. Then the lighter pink blended above that and the orange blending the whole thing out. I did the dark pink extended out as a little wing, and black eyeliner. I think Iceland would be a beautiful halo eye because the black and silver are shimmers. The Mykonos and Egypt can be used similarly, but I agree...Malibu isn't cohesive. Just my 2 cents...friends don't ALWAYS agree - and we need a Kajsa emoji!

9:45 You know what's funny, I was actually admiring the Malibu color story, for its brevity and soft fresh elegance in making three tertiary hues work together so nicely. The two purples can be transition and lid colors for each other, depending on one's skintone. The green goes with the caramel beige, which also goes with the purples. I'm actually going to dupe it out and play with it myself, it looks really intriguing to me! Edit from 11:10, actually, you are right, if the medium purple were more buildable, it would be better for the transition shade role for a wider range of skin tones. 🤔 If they decide to expand this color story in their great formula, with a couple more deepening shades, I think it could be a hit!

I know what you mean about good bh shadow quality and great bh shadow quality. I have a couple of palettes back when I was getting boxycharm (maybe almost 2 years ago now) and they were just meh. I kept and use them BUT i then got a larger bh palette and it was the bomb! I just used it yesterday and I love it. It’s the great quality one. You turned out a stunning look😊 thank you for showing us and sharing your thoughts and opinions. I was hoping for more as well. Great look I love the inner corner lavender. Each shadow color in the IceLand are in the old palettes Passion in Paris, Blueberry Muffin and I think that gray shimmer is very much like the one in the 2000 palette. I miss the old BH but I will take a pass on these and hope to see more innovative color stories in future collections. thank you for your review

Absolutely. The TJ Maxx and Marshall’s near me are stuffed with Morphe and BH palettes. I snagged the Tokyo palette, which was the only one I didn’t have from that line. They have a lot of the 9-pan palettes from the line with the sayings on the front, and even a couple of the Sweet Shoppe palettes. I really, really don’t like any of MUR’s quality though, especially for eyeshadow, so they absolutely need to keep the BH quality.

Thanks much for the video, as always, appreciated. I do wander if they at least knew they were heading to financial troubles when this release was being designed/developed (like cutting corners to see if it would help) and this shows that they were not in the right headspace. And then it was too late to change collection once they were bought? I do hope Makeup Revolution gives them the budget needed for the great formula. Granted I know nothing about makeup formulas nor how the behind the scenes work.

I've been waiting to see what you think of these!! After seeing Heather Austin's video, I didn't have super high hopes. What a bummer that these quads aren't up to par with the normal BH quality. I hope this was just a dud and that they come out with better things later! I like the idea of quads, but I think ColourPop has them beat so far.

I’m glad you reviewed this because other people made it sound like it was a situation where they completely changed their formula to revolution formulas, and I think it’s more likely they were doing a formula change before they sold it, because they were in financial trouble… like their two last collars weren’t as good. They need to go back to their formula from before that.

I'm actually really excited for the Cabo Face/Cheek Palette.. looking on the website.. the shades look much darker and the description even "say especially for medium skin tones​" I wonder if they made a few versions of this palette and you have a light skin tone one?? If MUR wants to be less hated they will be smart and use the BH formula. I’m not a fan of the quads, I need options, but it’s nice to see something new out by BH. On a side note, is the moon picture in the background upside down or is it like an abstract? Looks like you could hang it either way and it would be cute. I can imagine that if these palettes were in making while the company already had some financial troubles or still had some troubles, they may just be saving and thinning the formula a bit. I think I'm going to pick up the Iceland quad and wait what they do next. I hope, they'll gradually restock because I really like they brushes for cream formula ls and also their lippie formulas, so I'd like to see them just bring back their standard sortiment.

I would love to see this year. A holiday New Years Inspired 16 shade palette from BH formula with MUR brand just to see if what’s to come for whenever they release out to Ulta ( if that happens ) we can see if the formula is going to be worth it from here on out after that release . Maybe the palette should contain colors that are not regular colors seen for New Years …. Like a Version of “ Passion in Paris “ palette… but for New Years …. Like unconventional colors but that are able to go together… Just a thought .

I knew it! As soon as I heard that Makeup Revolution was buying out BH Cosmetics that they would do this. OMG The colour story was slapped into them and in a not good way. That blue one could of been so much more. It is a quick cash grab? Flaked on the spelling. LOL. They know people loved the older formula. I cannot believe Revolution claimed the formula of the new BH quads is the same of the old BH formula. Oh well. I won't be purchasing anything from BH Cosmetics unless they return to their great formula. At least I have great palettes from before their bankruptcy. Blessings!

personally I was a bit disappointed that they did quads, I know some people like smaller more concise pallets, and I do too, but 4 shadows is a little limiting. I like at least 6. Mykonos and Iceland look tempting. as for their new collection on their site, I was looking at it and might get the mauve 6 pan neutral pallet. I hope to see someone review that pallet.

I am disappointed with the colour story of the Egypt pallet... Egypt borders the red sea, mediterranean sea and has the nile running through it... not a single blue in the quad. It's also not yellow enough to be like the sand..

I’m passing on BH for the first time in a long time. I have been hunting in Marshalls and TJ MAXX for the palettes I wanted that I didn’t have. I’ve found quite a few! The only ones I’ve passed on are the black and white nine pans.

Oh no, the silver shimmer was so disappointing... can imagine the rest are the same. The dark shadows that never look as intense or deep as they do in-pan screams revolution beauty. I understand this was probably a WIP while they weren't still owned by revolution, but honestly doesn't look too hopeful to me. Guess we'll have to wait and see, but I'll probably stay away form them for a good while

I think quads were a smart move but they messed it up big time, with exception of neutral options. They needed to use their top formula to reassure existing BH fans and to attract newer customers. Same with the colour stories. I guess someone told them Gen Z was into muted colours and sage green but they are so behind the curve. Half blue/neutral quads always confuse me, especially for cobalt or true blues. It is a colour story that can look so disjointed with only 4 shades. Most people buying a blue quad either love blue or are a little bit scared of it - neither would be thrilled with this one.
