I finally got to Black Horn 209!! This video may be a little longer but it is full of information that I learned at the range. See how BH209 using 80grains (by weight) resulted in accuracy. Thank you for watching.

To avoid the FTF issue while using Blackhorn 209 powder (AKA Black Gold), purchase a breech plug kit from Arrowhead Rifles that utilizes Large Rifle magnum primers. This will eliminate the possibility for a FTF when you have some government beef on your Rifle sights.

@@suburbanhunt3653 One time is all it takes to ruin a hunt that you have worked hard to prepare for and spent a lot of $$ on. Granted, all primers are hard to find. What I am saying is, that in order to eliminate a fail to fire situation when using Blackhorn 209, switch to Large Rifle magnum primers. Often times smaller local gun stores are the place to find them, as online stores get cleaned out of inventory quickly. So other than the extra dollars needed to purchase the Arrowhead breech plug conversion kit, there isn't much disadvantage to the primer availability issue. A few months ago I found LRM primers at a large big box store and also two smaller gun stores. To save the Hazmat fee, I purchased from the smaller gun store. Blackhorn itself is hard to find and when you do, it's way overpriced. I paid $69.99 per 8 ounce bottle a year and a half ago at a local gun dealer. About 3 months ago I found some at the same dealer for a friend of mine. This time they had pasted a sticker over the top of the original $69.99 sticker that increased the price to $79.99. Needed it, paid the price. Capitalism works when the supply side isn't drastically less than demand. Right now, due to numerous reasons, the supply-demand ratio is completely out of whack. Remember the companies that are gouging you now and know who to vote for when you go to the ballot box.

@suburbanhunt3653
@suburbanhunt3653 2 ай бұрын
yes their we very inconsistent some being a over a grain off. So in theory you could be anywhere from 97 to 103 grains for a hundred grain charge. The biggest issue with pellet is you are getting random charges. I did a video on cleaning the bore or weight pellets to try to get better groups. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqKYZpuEibaDac0 In short weighting them did help as far a making 3 charges that were the same or dang close. The problem is it took almost a full box to find a combo that I would make the same charge. So it not a practical thing to do. I would switch to loose.

1lb = 7000gr BH209 comes in 8oz jugs = 1/2 lbs 1/2lbs = 3500gr 3500 / 80 = 43.75 The math would says at best 43 shots. I would say 42 would be a safe bet. The cheapest I've found it today was $32/jug + shipping and tax is $57. With 42 shots that's $1.36/ shot. Sorry about that my brain had to see that through. you should try the new variflame breech plug. it uses LRP and will cut down your group size. hotter spark and less force to push the load during ignition. also do not swab your barrel. the more crud the better with blackhorn. this should only be done with blackhorn and no other. go in to the woods with a dirty barrel. i only clean my barrel once a year. look up info from toby bridges he is the king of muzzloading.

I have to ask.. have you done that? How did it turn out? It seemed me that with other powders the “crud ring” created near the plug would effect follow up shots.
