Bhagavatha Sapthaham Malayalam by Swami Ramanacharana Tirtha Nochur Sri Venkataraman Part 5. Bhagavata Saptaha Yajna' is a Hindu ritual performed in Kerala. This is a yajna in which the Sri Maha Bhagavatam, prominent in the Hindu scriptures, is recited in seven days. Bhagavata Saptah is one of the prominent Yajnas in the devotional path of Hinduism. In ancient times, Saptaha was held once in twelve years, but in modern times, Bhagavata Saptaha is held annually in most temples. Kota Sridevi Temple, Aranmula, Pathanamthitta District, Central Kerala, where the biggest Saptaha Yajna is held. Niraparas offered by devotees are kept in the Yajna shala without movement for seven days.
The Bhagavata week is said to originate from the story of King Parikshit mentioned in the Mahabharata. The sages recited the entire Sri Mahabhagavatam to the king who was cursed to die within seven days after being bitten by the Takshaka serpent. The Mahabharata states that after listening to the entire Bhagavatam, Maharaja realized the futility of worldly pleasures and attained self-knowledge and then attained salvation through Taksakadamsana. Reciting and listening to Sri Maha Bhagavatam for seven days later became a popular yajna.
