Lust forces us to use ourselves for our own destruction.

The origin of lust is in the Supreme - the desire for being happy - aadirasa - but this needs to be redirected towards Supreme. Misdirection of our original search for happiness is lust.

Indulgence will aggravate the fire, not extinguish it. E.g. Yayati. It will be aggravated. So, what about marriage? How will it purify? In grihashta life indulgence will not make pure, but observance of dharma will bring purification. Only when we practice dharma can we compare which is higher and lower.

Hare Krishna. 3.37 - 3.40 - How the enemy of lust covers us.. 3.37 - It is lust only Arjuna which is born of contact with material mode of passion and later transformed into wrath and which is all-devouring sinful enemy of this world. Lust transmogrifies(ugly transformation) to wrath. As long as person is engage into "athato indriya-trupti jignasa" he is not attracted to "athato brahma jignasa". Brahma jignasa is not idle intellectual inquiry. Lust in it's original form (Adi rasa) also comes from supreme. Lust when goes down changes to wrath and when goes up it becomes transcendental. 3.38 - As fire is covered by smoke, as mirror is covered by dust and embryo is covered by the womb, the living entity is similarly covered by different degrees of this lust. Lust (3.38) Analogy Species Nature of covering Fire-smoke Humans Thin & Penetrable Dust-mirror Animals Thick & tough to penetrate Womb-child Plants Super-thick and penetrable only after long effort Lust makes us forget our spiritual identity and pushes us to material illusion. 3.39 - Thus the wise living entity’s pure consciousness becomes covered by his eternal enemy in the form of lust, which is never satisfied and which burns like fire. In terms of Identity, strategy, and Longetivity; lust is the worst enemy. Indulgence aggrivates the fire of lust it does not extinguish that fire. Lust is more dangerous then poison. Visha destroys after consumption but vishaya destroys even by comtemplation. 3.40 - The senses, the mind and the intelligence are the sitting places of this lust. Through them lust covers the real knowledge of the living entity and bewilders him. Money is concealed or revealed, the forcible robbing thiefs are still punished. The way we dress and behave send signals/messages. Women regulate their senses by concealing their body in appropriate clothes (modest/non provocative) and the men regulate their senses by controlling lust.
