The etymology of this is interesting. नाागः = न + अगः. Agah means one that does not move na agaH means double negation so one that always moves. If you observe an elephant it always keeps moving. It keeps moving a leg or the trunk or something else. It is one of the main characteristics of an elephant. Hence this name.

Wonderfully bringing out hidden GEMS for sanskrit lovers like us who unfortunately were not given any proper importance in our school days - thanks to goo-law-bi education system in '70s. One suggestion please - tell you IT fellow to handle display of shloks immediately done as before you start avoiding those fancy effects too as to mele shloks visible as soon as you start reciting - that'll help us to relate to each letter/word you are uttering!

Thanks for these beautiful episodes 🙏Listening to these I remember some thing I wanted to share When my daughter was 10 years she learnt the neeti shatakam for a shloka competition. Learning the meaning of these shlokas ( in English) she started crying and felt bad thinking one should be compassionate for the fools and cannot be so rude to them . By saying Fool , she meant the ignorant and innocent ones without the worldly knowledge. But the problem here is that Moorkhah doesn’t translate exactly into a fool and probably we don’t have any word in English to explain it .

@@tattvam Which syllable is pronounced more loudly -- e.g. PA-ra-mi-ta vs. pa-ra-MI-ta, or DA-sha-ra-tha vs. da-SHA-ra-tha, etc. There is conflicting information about this in Sanskrit textbooks, and none of it seems to be based on traditional sources or living Sanskrit lineages.

It is गोगर्दभौ only and not गोगार्दभौ. And 17th syllable is guru when we put गोगर्दभौ because the akshara that follows ग is a samyuktAksharam. Also in samskritam the word for donkey is गर्दभ and not गार्दभ.
