A swift journey from Bhubaneshwar to Howrah on the Bhubaneshwar Howrah Jan Shatabdi Express. One of India's original Jan Shatabdi's, this is by far my favourite train in the Bhubaneshwar Howrah stretch, and also the fastest and most punctual connection. The train usually is either right on schedule, or before schedule, and gets top priority through the route, often reaching Howrah 10 to 15 minutes before schedule.
Enjoy this journey undertaken on the day of Diwali in 2019. We start early in the morning from Bhubaneshwar and cross the two distributaries of the Mahanadi, and the sprawling Mahanadi river after Cuttack. Courtesy the receding monsoons, all three rivers were teeming with water. We have a brief dalliance with the Eastern Ghats between Cuttack and Jajpur and then cross the Brahmani river, and head northwards through Orissa, amidst lush paddy fields and fluffy clouds. The train races through the Balasore-Kharagpur stretch and enters into Bengal as the day progresses. We arrive at Howrah 10 minutes before time. Major crossings include those with a late running Purushottam Express, Kalinga Utkal Express, Tapaswini Express, Amaravati Express, Bangriposi Bhubaneshwar Intercity, Dhauli Express, Falaknuma Express, Howrah Yesvantpur Duronto, Howrah Digha AC Express and the East Coast Express.
