Thank you for uploading this interview Bibi. Not very many Bolan interviews exist, so this is precious. Thank you for making the effort to speak English so as to make this interview possible.......and btw, your English sounds rather good to me. Interviews with Bolan were not easy for journalistrs to obtain at that time because he was so popular. As one journalist said : it was just as hard as trying to get get an interview with the beatles during beatlemania. During the interview, Marc said to you "go on as long as you like" because he was obviously very comfortable with you. This is not surprising bcoz he was drawn to extremely gentle-natured people - like himself. Thanks for preserving and uploading this.

This is a very interesting interview, but Bolan seemed to be a bit of a fantasist by this stage of his career. As far as I'm aware, 'Telegram Sam' was recorded in Copenhagen, and I doubt whether he lived in The Hague for any length of time, never mind three months. That stuff about the silent film he was making with Harry Nilsson is fascinating: he said an almost identical thing in an interview with a Belgian TV station in March 1973, but I don't think any such film was ever made. That's the thing about his interviews, as you probably know given your name : truths, made up stuff, and exaggeration. Fans have to figure out what is what. Just like he said he lived in France in the 60s and met a wizard there (hence the song), had a group with Cat Stevens, wrote 6 books, "Desdemona" by John Children's being number 1 in Germany, Australia, worked on several things. etc. He said many things, some of which were true, some of which weren't. He was charming though.

I've met Alice Cooper on 18th November 1972 in Amsterdam due to my work for the promoter Paul Acket Organization but I did not interviewing him… I did an interview with 2 of his roadies instead, which was published in the German POPFOTO N° 347 (January 1973). Cheers, Bibi

June was amazing for Marc and I've always thought they were perfect for eachother, according to her they would've got back together. In an interview she said in June of 1977 they were both at the same event and he asked her to go with him and they spent the day together while his girlfriend Gloria was away in America who he was apparently unhappy with

Gilles Newton: I recorded the interview with my little Philips tape recorder in a meeting room of the Intercontinental Hotel in Hamburg (not in a busy pub). It was a press meeting organised by the record company of T. Rex in Germany and yes, there were some people around...VBR, Bibi

Marc actually was working on several books, but never got around to publishing them. He had notebooks filled with writings which someone needed to help him edit, but he never had time because he focused on his rock ‘n’ roll so that’s not completely B. S. I’m a writer also, and sometimes I write some thing in my head, but don’t have time to write it down and in my mind it’s a finished book even though it’s not actually on paper. I know that sounds crazy, but the creative mind is somewhat different. But I did read that he actually was working on a science fiction novel called the Kraken and he really had it all mapped out and quite a bit of it on paper. I’d love to know what happened to it.

@@lauriejanes6511 Well, unfortunately he lost his direction and focus on rock and roll. Marc just wanted to be a star. It is easy to trace this. If one compares T.Rex, Electric Warrior and The Slider (my three favourites) with Bolan’s Zip Gun etc. He no longer had the creative drive as with David Bowie for example, who developed his creativity as well as the complexity of his musical structure. Tony Visconti points this out in his book. 4-5 basic chords were Marc’s limit. Visconti even tried to get Marc to learn other chords and keys, but Marc would knock off a few songs and then rush off to have his picture taken. Such a shame that he didn’t develop his talent more than he did. I’m still a huge fan of Marc. He got me through my adolescence. Mysterious and magical, but he was a typical “ light that burns twice as bright burns half as long”. The world is a more boring place without him.

@@andrewswatland4622 I agree with you that after The Slider Marc’s music took a downhill turn. I have a feeling it has something to do with the cocaine he was consuming because earlier June Child hadsworn that he wouldn’t even take a sip of wine. I also think June was good for him and I didn’t like the collaboration between Marc and Gloria because I thought their voices did not go well together. I do however, think that his early albums are overlooked and are masterpieces of acoustic music and beautiful poetry. That’s why I think that in his own way he was as versatile as Bowie because his music changed so much from his early days to his electric period. Yes, I think he did get caught up in wanting to be a star, but all great artists seem to have huge egos, and he also got me through my adolescence and it’s just difficult for me to even hear a negative thing about him, even when I know it’s true, Ha. I don’t put him on a pedestal, but I do so love him, both as an artist and as a truly creative being. I’ve enjoyed communicating with you.

I have all his albums and singles. I agree that his Tyrannosaurus Rex albums were magical too. Very Tolkien inspired. I have his book of poetry, The Warlock Of Love too. I was lucky to see him live at the Brixton Sundown in 1972. The Glam period was great fun.
