Bibio - Lost Somewhere (early alt version)

I don’t normally share early versions of released tracks, but the track ‘Lost Somewhere’ had evolved through various versions before settling on the one that made it to the album. This earlier version is much closer to the album version compared to the demo I posted in a separate video, but I feel like it is different enough to show how the track evolved. This version is more stripped back, both with the vocal layering and instrumentation. This version was also made before I went to Glasgow to record the drums played by Ian Hendry, so this version has me on drums. This version also contains the original guitar solo, which I played on my Gibson SG through a Marshall amp, using the amp’s overdrive. Some time after recording this I had the idea to get Conor Smith to learn my solo and adapt it for pedal steel guitar, which is the one that made it to the album, Conor's pedal steel version took that whole solo section into some surreal territory, which I love, but I also enjoy the tone and feel of this SG take and thought it was worthy of sharing. Conor is another talented Glaswegian who Ian introduced me to, so for the album version I went to GloWorm studios in Glasgow to record the drums and pedal steel guitar over the course of a couple of days, but this earlier version was all recorded and performed by me at my home studio. I thought sharing these alt versions could be a nice alternative to sessions.
