In my opinion it would be a good idea to keep the /w/ from /u/ + stressed vowel and do some funky labialization things with it. Like atuaakya could become atwaay, and you could do something like /tw/ > /p/ which would result in even more fun alternations. Otherwise I think something should be done with the labial besides just deleting it.

As for sound change appliers, I prefer to use the SCA2 from Zompist. It's a basic, no frills, free, web-based option. It has some limitations in what it can do, and it's not the most user-friendly thing, but it's simple, well documented, and the inputs are very intuitive. George Corley of the Conlangery podcast recommends the Phonix sound change applier. According to him, the interface is very easy to use, and it has a number of powerful features that other SCAs don't, such as the implementation of supersegmentals like tones and stress. I haven't tried it yet, but it sounds appealing.

So with sound change appliers the biggest issue for me is anything with supersegmentals (e.g. stress based vowel changes or tones) can be super hard to implement. Also vowel harmony would probably be annoying to deal with in sound change applier. The Lexurgy sound change applier seems to fix a bunch of other minor problems with them but I haven't done an actual conlang through it yet. And moreover it does it by making it more like programming to give you the complexity that to do thinks natlangs do all the time and you can do by hand easily, such as complex conditionals.

Sound changer programs? Sounds cool. More for your audience than you, since you don't use them - but are there any good starting points? Because my current application is generating setting-specific terms by linguistic evolution of English roots. I wonder if a sound changer could streamline the process of picking impactful drifts. Example: I want to separately drift "technology" and "archaeology", and then elide together the drifted forms.
@MGDrzyzga
@MGDrzyzga 3 жыл бұрын
Come to think of it, eliding and then drifting them would also be of interest. And having the two related but different words would be fitting for this world. As long as they're not too close, this would kinda be like having the words for "wizard" and "fool" be etymologically related. The different timings of the elisions would capture the different contexts.

-a and -ta are separate affixes and -atu is one affix. -a is the inanimate class affix and -ta is the singulative number affix tacked on (5+6). whereas -atu is just the animate pl. affix which is already fused (4). -tu doesn't exist. At least that's my understanding.
