In fairness, he is a layperson speaking to someone highly educated in the topic. He is actually more knowledgeable than a lot of Christians about the text, but doesn’t understand that everything he takes in is filtered through the perspective that because it’s in the Bible, it is true in supporting the historical record as well as the religious conclusion. They are brainwashed into a hierarchy for accepting information only from approved authorities -a trait that follows them into how they deal with the rest of life- and the approved authorities consistently cherry pick passages to weave together a narrative that supports the conclusion they want parishioners to reach. It’s why they can’t read the Bible critically, nor keep the text in context. They believe it magically has layers of hidden meaning that get revealed if their god favors the reader enough. It’s like they go to a class to learn to make meals, the teacher throws a pot of spaghetti and sauce at them and says, “SEE! This is the recipe that has been revealed to me!” Then you ask them what is in the sauce, what kind of pasta was it, how long it cooked…they don’t know. Some of them can say, well there’s tomato… They are so thoroughly brainwashed that they cannot see they are brainwashed.
@shanejohns790117 күн бұрын
@@Mulberrysmile That brainwashing creates mental grooves/tracts supportive of Authoritarians / Dictators / Emperors. And the vast majority of them would sooner throw out logic before they'll give up their false beliefs in an eternal afterlife. And because that's what drives them, ultimately speaking, there's really nothing that the non-believer anti-theist can provide to them as adequate substitution. Their egos are terrified of returning to the void, so they convince themselves that there is no return to the void and that they'll continue beyond bodily death.

I have a question for Justin. Many scholars say the prophet Malachi prophesied that Elijah would be a forerunner for the Messiah. I am wondering if you believe this was what Malachi had in mind when he wrote his prophecies. Imo, it seems that Malachi was saying that God was upset with blemished sacrifices and was going to leave the Temple until this situation was rectified. To correct the situation, Elijah was going to come back and ensure the Israelites/Judeans were following the Law correctly which is the first step before properly consecrating the Temple so God would want to re-enter it. Also, it would keep them from being found guilty when God judged Israel . What are your thoughts on Malachi? Do you think Malachi was giving a prophecy about the Messiah having a forerunner? Another question. What event do you think Habakkuk was referring to in ch 3.1-16? Imo, it seems like an Exodus account that's slightly different from the Torah due to God having horses and chariots.
@Deconstruction_Zone8 күн бұрын
Your first observation from Malachi is spot on. In fact, the Elijah character was supposed to prevent their destruction. He did not. On Habakkuk, their is definition an older tradition than Exodus being recounted. In fact, many scholars think that this explains Yahweh as originally being a Judean deity that originated from Edom/Midian. Check out the Midian hypothesis and the YHWH metallurgy hypothesis. Great observations btw
@bobbygoble93298 күн бұрын
@Deconstruction_Zone . Thanks for the response. I'll check out the information you mentioned. I have noticed something else in the prophets. Have you noticed that the actual Messianic prophecies seem to be later additions to the texts they were written in? For example, I can't remember which prophetic book it is in but the Messianic prophecy seems to have been inserted in the middle of a passage about Moab's upcoming destruction. Thanks again for responding so quickly to my previous questions.

@diandian9827 - I didn't say it wasn't. But it's a pointless word because we already have an English word: HISTORY! I'm picking up on it because it's something unique to America and it's annoying.

No, it refers to two different things. The history of the Bible would either refer to the details of the Bible's creation and development or could refer to the purported history that the Bible records. Historicity specifically involves addressing that second history and determining how well it accords with actual history that we can confirm.

In 1997 Hichins made a prophecy; "Brice 0 - 2 Justin" I don't know if it is relevant, but Brice mentioned Hitchins (a lot, while crying like a spoilt brat), so I thought it might be prudent to post this!

Bryce's zealotry makes him appear idiotic.

Justin, you were so patient with him.🙂

What continues to blow my mind with this type of guy is how he ignores that the experts in the language, the book, the religion... you know, Jewish people who study the text religiously, disagree. If it were so clear then there wouldn't be Jewish people. These experts on Messianic prophesy disagree with Christians. It's not just atheists. It's the people who wrote the text who disagree

Christianity is to Judaism as Mormonism is to Christianity.

That was a hard pivot to coping right there at the end.

the only problem with skeptisism is that it utterly dismantles his ramblings and oh wait it's only a problem for him not for anyone else
