I've been collecting Bibles for about 2 years so far - here are some of my top tips for starting and building a Bible collection and things I wish I knew sooner!

I started reading the word in the 80s , babies came, got back into it in the 90s . Then in 2015 I really got back into my love of the Bible and last year I was diagnosed with cancer had surgery , then 5 months later my daughter was diagnosed with an aggressive form-of cancer . It’s her. A brutal journey and to be honest being in Gods word every day and my Bible collection saved my sanity

I have been led to give away some of my Bibles. I started collecting some (mostly the cheaper kind) premium Bibles to hand them down to kids, grandkids, nieces, and nephews. And I still have plenty. I figure the gift of God's word is always a good gift. That being said, I LOVE reading God's word. I wasn't always like that. Now that I've retired I have more time to read. Currently I'm going through 3 Bibles and having the time of my life!

I have quite a few bibles and I love them. Without realizing it I’ve amassed a collection of 15+ bibles in many of the modern translations. When I fell in love with God’s word, I started wanting the Bible in different translations. In order to get many of the ones I would request them for my birthday, Mother’s Day and Christmas and before long, I had reader bibles, study bibles, women’s devotional bibles in many translations. I have to be honest I read and study the Bible every day, so they certainly get used. I have given away a couple, but only because I bought them myself, not gifts from my children, and the font was too small. Overall, I love them all and try to use them in my daily walk with the Lord. I only have one leather bible right now, but am hoping to get a premium Bible someday. I’m hoping for a humble lamb or similar for me to read, and only read daily. Loved your video and Bibles.

Haha yes I feel the same, they rack up quickly don't they! That's so good that you rotate through them so they all get some love; I try do to that too when I'm reading the Word! Study has to be in my white Bible for consistency though hehe, but once that is finished I will choose another to annotate! God bless sis and thank you for sharing! 🤍

I have 7 bibles currently with different translations and have even given 3 away! One of them was very special to me and I put it in a box in the park meant for book sharing and hope someone really appreciated it. I gave them away when I noticed they were just sitting on the shelf not getting used. I have been very tempted to get bibles because I see other people have them and they are pretty lol I've had to reel myself in and remind myself it's not about that.

I have felt the need to give away some of mine. One lady from my church really loved one I was bringing, so I gave it to her. Another lady had no Bible, so I gave her my fancy leather covered one. It was good. I always get my two daughters new Bibles often, guess I have a Bibke buying addiction? But, as long as I'm reading them and not just collecting, I don't feel bad about it. The most sold 'book' of all times for a reason...IT'S ALIVE!

Thanks, Sis. All good thoughts. My Bible collection built up out of translation curiosity and a few other reasons. For instance, I have the ESV Archeological Bible because that's a subject that fascinates me. I have a couple of study Bibles and a few journaling Bibles in different translations. Taking a break from purchasing more at the moment because I haven't really gotten to all of them yet. 🙂

PS excellent advice regarding praying on whether you need a new Bible or not to add to your collection. I truly do wish that I did more of this because there are some purchases that perhaps I didn’t need to make. I will be thinking about donating those bibles, but at the end of the day, it’s something I have purchased with money that I could have perhaps used in a different way eg given to a charity.

I know what you mean about being "on fire". My "fire for the word" really started in 2016 and from then, there is rarely I day that I don't read from a bible and I now have ....quite a collection! Thanks for the video sis, I am sure there will be many Christians who will benefit from your tips. Re the antiques - do you find them online? Or in person?

If you can, keep the box your Bible comes in. Great for safe storage (laying flat) when rotating Bibles. I cant say I use all my Bibles. Its embarrassing but I probably have +/- 50 and I would say 10/12 are "sentimental" and only 3 would be considered "Premium." I never even knew there was a "thing" about premium Bibles until I started researching to have my SpiritFilled (Jack Hayford) original edition, rebound. Its starting to fall apart 😢 I soon realized I could spend upwards of $250 to have a rebind... Or just get a new Bible. So, while I had 20 or so on hand, most were sentimental. Thus my search was on. I've given some away and have been given some Bibles. And over the years I've given away any hard bounds that I had...for some reason I just can't deal with a hard bound Bible ...weird huh? Now I only have 3 Bibles I want: a Schuyler, an Allen and an NLT Life Application Bible. And truth be told...I don't need any of them. I would only use the NLT... I doubt oli could write/notate in a $250+ Bible so why have it. The NLT Life Application... It will be highlighted & scribbled in! It's not a cheap Bible, but it's not a Premium edition 😊

Thank you! Yes, I keep my Pitt Minion and Humble Lamb in their boxes as they are premiums, but the rest I keep out on display so I can admire them 😍 Wow I love that you have such a great collection, how long have you been collecting for? I bet it's like a wonderful Bible library, what a dream! Ooof yes Bible rebinds are crazy expensive, you're right, it's cheaper just to get a new one 😅 but I guess for people who have all their notes in them or were passed down through generations, it's nice to keep the original. Oh yes I am the same with hardbacks! I quickly realised they're not the one for me either and now I prioritise soft cover Bibles. Agreed, I would love the ones you listed too but I also probably wouldn't ever write in them either so I totally have the same dilemma lol they'd make lovely gifts though 🥰 Thank you for taking the time to chat with me about your collection, it has been fun! I love this side format! It feels more personal in a way, like Im chatting with you in the same space🥰I've been wanting to buy a new bible soooooo bad especially in a different translation, but like you said, I haven't felt led to buy any. God knows I'm ready to check out any time lol 🥲 I guess he wants me happy with my micro collection. I suppose that's why I bought leather in the first place - for longevity and stuff. 😮‍💨I have a question, why wouldn't you read out of your little antique white bible? Is it too delicate? I've been searching locally for a cute antique one, but sadly can't find any. Also, side note, I had mini heart attacks every time you waved your hands in front of that tea! If it were me, my clumsy self would have that crisp white sweater a lovely tea stained color after the first wave 😂 Sending you all my love!!

It's a good question - basically, I could never allow myself to read from the antiques; even holding them is only done in rare circumstances haha, they're just too precious! And for my bibles, I do love them so much, just sniffing them makes it worth it. I want your pit minion tho, it looks so nice and comfy to sit with, is it?? Ahh Bible bonding, love it! Yes actually I have rebound my own! I didn't show it as I was a bit too ambitious and was not totally happy with how it came out 🙈 so it won't get its own video, but I'm going to try again someday and I may show it as a first attempt comparison lol! My tip for Bible collecting? Oooo...I guess, buy what strikes your fancy. It's a good thing to collect, I mean, it's wonderful. But maybe limit yourself to one new one each year. Read it, mark it.

I'm curious to know if you have recommendations for non-journaling Bibles that have slightly, but noticeably thicker pages than some of the onion skin Bible pages some Bibles have? I recently purchased a KJV that was printed in the early 2000's by Zondervan, who apparently doesnt publish KJV Bibles anymore, but the pages are noticeably thicker than some of my other newer Bibles. The print in this most recent purchase is rather small, and I need something with a larger font. I don't want to buy anything online, since I can't open it up and see and feel the pages. The Bible I just bought was still wrapped in shrink wrap and packaged in its original box so I had no idea the print was so small. I like the thickness and opacity of the pages though because the print on the reverse side doesn’t show as badly as some of the newer Bibles on the market. So... any recommendations you have would be appreciated.

Great question, Rachel! I guess for thicker pages and larger font you will want to look for a really chunky Bible, that's probably the best sign it will meet your requirements! I'm not sure my collection is quite big enough to give you a substantive answer based on first hand experience, though. I would ask Cat Woods (@catwoods5499) as her collection is very vast; hopefully she will be able to advise you!

I have the same issue, the thicker paper tends to be the 36 gsm in premium bibles. a great option with thicker paper I found was the sovereign collection by thomas nelson in the kjv & nkjv. The wide margin editions have the same paper aslo. hope this helps!

@Christiantalk153 thank you for this information. I will definitely have to look into both of those options. I did wind up going to a Bible bookstore where I live and spent two hours looking at Bibles, comparing pages, opacity, font size, etc. I wound up buying two Thomas Nelson Bibles because I liked them both so much and couldn't decide on which one I liked more. One is the Woman's Study Bible and the other is The Open Bible. Both are KJV, which is what I wanted. The associates there were great and even opened and unwrapped Bibles for me so I could flip through the pages and see the actual font size. I'll definitely be going back to them. So kind! I have several NKJV and the one I have use the most over the last ten years is well loved and I've had to repair the spine on it once, and I'm thinking it's time to "retire" it but can't quite bring myself to set it on the shelf just yet.
