Hola, I am new here, please don’t be fooled buy a pen that temporarily does not bleed though. The acid in most pens and markers breaks down the page and the color bleeds through page in front and behind the underlined text. Archival ink do not to bleed through because it is an acid free ink and therefore cost more. Also keep in mind the color of your bible page is it cream or white, or the lighting you are using, is it yellow or white? Sharpie art pens are dull to minimize ghosting aka show through. Which some people dislike. I noticed that Pigma Micron pens are deeper in color than the Sharpie Art pen. I like that I can replace the shades I use most often. Go to Ac Moore or Michaels and replace the color needed for at least 40% off. Archival pens would not do well as retractable, because the ink would dry up. My final comment is you are most likely death gripping your Micron pen. The .5 nib is the second to largest nib. I can not image you liking the smallest nib .005. Hope that helps! If you really wanted to test out a bunch of different brands/types of yellow highlighters go on Jet Pens website. They have assembled sets of highlighters/pens that they sell by color from various brands/styles.

I've found zebra pens work great and don't bleed through my bible. They usually sell them at Walmart 😀 yes I agree with Gretchen the Crayola twistables are amazing even on the thinnest pages in a Bible

As a person who up till a short time ago worked in an office supply place, I can attest to the fact that pens are something one can really geek out over. i'm more of a lover of the Energel pen for general writing (it's like buttah!) But in my bibles, it's generally fine line markers, random ball points, and pencil.

I use the Paper Mate Inkjoy and the Micron pens, and love them! I’m a bit of a pen snob and always on the quest for finding the perfect pens. I find there’s very minimal bleed through with these pens in my ESV study bible. Thank you for sharing your suggestions and making me laugh!!

The struggle is real with pens and highlighters! I've recently upgraded to the Cambridge NASB. I have a cheap NASB thineline I used for years and it's highlighted and marked up well, and I wasn't worried about what pens etc to use in that because it was cheap. Now that I have an expensive bible. It's taking me weeks to build up the courage to mark it.haha. Love your work, Jason! Keep it up! I'd love to do a youtube channel like this. Not sure though!

I found multi-packs of the G2 Purples at Walmart. I seriously love the G2 for all my writing. (First time I ever really fell in love with a particular pen, and I'm a life long Penaholic! My desk is full of packs of the black G2s.) I actually adore the brown, and wish I could find them in multipacks. No luck with that yet though. Anyhoo ... Thought I would mention -->> You love yellows. You HAVE GOT to get your hands on a Prismacolor colored pencil in Canary Yellow #PC916. That is my favorite yellow. It's practically as bright as a florescent highlighter, and it's creamy and gorgeous. I live in the woods, but when I go to town and am near the Hobby Lobby there, I will pick up several of these just to be sure I have them. You will LOVE the PC916! Last night I was reorganizing my Bible pencils so I would have another set for my church Bible. Suddenly I thought about the fact that I love so many colors and it was killing me to try to limit myself to one green, one brown, one blue, etc. So, although I'll still limit the travel bible for the sake of space, for my studying here at my desk, I'm going to give myself Color Joy And Happiness. I pulled out all these various colors I LOVE and will simply grab what's catching my eye at the moment and go for it. So now I have color "Families". Such as--I have 8 different greens for Christian Living now. Ahh, happy happy joy joy. Also, I wanted to share my other happiness with you, Jason. Yesterday I received something I splurged on. A new ESV Journaling Bible (the one with the leaves on the front!) and the ESV Study Bible (Which is massive!). Oh my gosh, these are AMAZING! That Study Bible is fantastic. I didn't want to be limited to internet for all my referencing, maps, commentary, and other information. It's all here in the ESV Study Bible! And, although I had a Journaling Bible already, I use that one only for Bible Art Journaling. I wanted this to be only for study and notes. Now I don't need a jourmal at my side, because I can put it all together. This is so fantastic! Got my new Journaling Bible, my ESV Study Bible, and all my pens and pencils.. and I am in heaven! I started playing with your note taking ideas yesterday, and I'm having a blast. Thank you! (now go get that Prismacolor Canary Yellow!) God Bless.

Bro, try the Pigma Micron PN. The PN stands for plastic nib. It's not a ballpoint but like a plastic tipped marker. Much more durable and I find I can write pretty small with it, probably similar to a ballpoint.

Just found your channel and I am binge watching. PLEASE look into the frixon pens to show people what a horrible decision it would be. I know and hear of so many using them and recommending them. The problem with frixon is they erase with friction which is heat. So any heat will erase it. I had lost many notes because of the sun, or leaving it in a car. I do bible journaling, so if I need to dry something, like a gel pen, with a heat gun, I will lose notes for many pages beyond what I am on, just from the heat. Thank you, I can now go back to binge watching your stuff.

Jason, Jason, Jason...you must try the Crayola Twistble crayons for highlighters. Great color options, no bleed thru, no ghosting, no fading, fun to apply, and inexpensive. For brighter vibrant colors, there is a set of Extreme Twistables too. Also, have you tried the TUL brand needle nose retractable colored and black gels? Way better than Inkjoys, but of the same nature. And TUL has yellow. Office Depot carries TUL brand. Also Uniball 207s (no yellow tho).

There is no problem writing over the crayolas when using any marker (Sharpie art pens, microns, etc.) or ball points. A little trouble with gel pens tho.

I am curious what your thoughts are on the Pilot Frixion pens and highlighters. I thought maybe they would be great for bible marking because they erase, but apparently the ink will also disappear if exposed to heat and reappear when exposed to the cold. So I wonder how the ink holds up over time.

Don't use frixon. It erases with heat (friction is heat) so when you leave it in the car, breathe on it, use a hairdryer close by, all your notes will be gone! I will use a frixon at church to scribble notes in my bible but then when I get home I will right away re-write them and use a hairdryer to erase the scribbles.

For Christmas I got my first study Bible. NLT “Life Application SB” should I be highlighting and taking notes in this bible. Or should this be more of a reading bible? I know this may sound silly as I write this it seems clear I should be highlighting and doing note taking in this bible. Just curious on your thoughts. Thank you and keep up the amazing work!

Jornaling bibles have a nice blank or lined strip going down the side of every single page for notes. They are great. But either way, I am a big fan of note taking in every bible I get. Even when I get a new bible, I will re write most of my notes in it.

I must be one of the cool kids following you on Instagram. Been seeing your pics and I have to tell you, "only for me" , a liitle too much going on for my ADD mind. I like what you do but I just couldn't do it that way with multi colors. So, I just stick with the black Micron Pigma 005 for writing my notes and the black Micron Pigma 01 for underlining. Then I use the Sharpie yellow gel highlighter. None of these have problems with bleed through. Maybe slight show through depending upon the paper gsm. I have in the past used the Pilot G2s but I did just come across Pilot G-Tec-C4 Gel Rolling Ball Pens, Ultra Fine Point that work just as good as the Micron Pigma 005. So, starting to incoorperate that into my Bible notes. And the G2s are out. Great video man!!!!!

I must add... I was thinking about this struggle a lot of folks have with writing in their Bibles. Ever since I was saved, I have written in my Bibles. I always felt it helped me to focus on the text. Now I do try to keep one that's clean and not written in. It's nice, but so hard for me to keep my mitts off of it while reading. All my other ones are joyfully marked up. Well, I think that much of this fear of Bible marking is due to the fact that Bibles used to be much more difficult to make and to obtain than they are nowadays. I can't imagine Spurgeon writing in his Bible, lol. Today, In this country (the USA), Bibles are still easily obtained and the prices are all over the map. We can get a Bible for a few dollars, even for free. Or we can go all out and pick up lovely Premium Bibles. They are available to us. We are SO blessed! I feel that the Word of God is meant to be read, and studied, and pored over. Not carefully kept on a shelf for posterity and rarely read. So we need to do whatever we can to get into the Word and hear from our Lord and Savior. For me, that means underlining, and highlighting, and note-taking. Even drawing. Do what you can to drink in the Holy Word of God. He will bless you for it.

Uni Ball jet stream is a really good pen to use. Check out jetpens.com. They have a bazillion different kinds of pens to choose from And they even offer sets of different pens to try out.

Hate to break this news to you all but the "inkjoy" pens, which you said don't "bleed-through" seem to have a bad habit of "globbing up" on the page you are writing on...very irritating. In addition to the bleed-through, the pens themselves are quite inconsistent in that some of them glob up a little; some a lot! I learned this the hard way in my brand new expensive Cambridge Bible when using an Inkjoy and beginning to write a note in he wide margin, touching down the pen left a large "inkblot" on the page. Of course, it could not be undone; so I am through with the Inkjoy pens for good. Blessings, D.O.D. - B.A. Th.M.

Marta Ranson you can use a journaling bible, not expensive, that's what they're specifically designed for. And you don't need to mark up your actual reading bible that way.

I am going to get some pens, previously I was against marking or colouring God's Word because I thought it was comical and disrespectful. I own a lot of premium Bible's and to be honest I've committed idolatry, literally by worshipping my Bible's which is wrong. I own Schuyler's and Allan's but it feels like they do most of my work with notes and other people's opinions even though they are well respected scholars or what in the end it's an opinion. There's a few theologies I disagree with and don't in study Bible's. I'm going to get a cheap Bible I can highlight and write down what's most important to me in that time and not be overly concerned about it. What I will do is put the dates on the side when I've written or highlighted a scripture and go back to it and remember why I wrote or highlighted a certain things for that time in my life. Do you think for this I should be looking for a wide margin?

Maryah I do what you are planning to do. I feel like it's essentially creating your own study bible. I write down the date and name of the Pastor if I'm taking notes from a Sermon. I'd definitely suggest a wide margin for this. Whatever you choose I hope that it brings you closer to God.

I think you’re on the right track! Because you’re gonna start with a cheaper bible, I recommend trying a journaling bible, which is kinda like an economy wide margin 😂 The other thing I would say is, try tweaking your system everyday... this is a test bible, so do some tests. 😁 that’s what I’ve done and I feel like it’s helped me drill down into exactly what works for me. You’re taking the right steps! Keep it up!

Your name is quite funny as I do read my Bible's in starbucks and places where there could be spillages and what put me on this path was actually that thing as I destroyed a premium art gilt and I was like why am I carrying 200 dollar Bible with me into shops or by the sea where there's a lot of moisture! So I came to the conclusion I will store my premiums away for special occasions! These Bible's will be gifts to my children down the road and where they can read them at Christmas or Easter time! I'm going to find a wide margin, but right now I'm only seeing Cambridge and they can still reach to 120 dollars!

In one of your video's you mentioned that you use Micron Pens a lot but you are paying $5 per pen for them. I'm not sure where you live but I get my Micron pens for $2.99 each at both Staples and Hobby Lobby. Hobby Lobby has sales on them too. Just trying to help.

I’ve realised I don’t like pens where the barrel narrows down to the nib! The Pilots don’t do that and they’re available in a range of colours. Check em out.

I love the frixion pens, markers and highlighters as well. I like to take school notes with them and the different colors help me to organize my thoughts. I also love that I can erase when I make a mistake! Haven't tried them in my bible yet.
