Here would be my beginners' tips: (a) First, get a good quality ESV, NASB, KJV, or NIV study Bible. If you are a younger Christian or English is your second language, maybe start with a NLT study Bible. (b) Second, learn about the Bible as whole...discover how it is divided in the New and Old Testaments and the different kinds of book groupings, e.g. the Pentateuch, wisdom books, psalms, historical books, prophetic books, letters, etc. Knowing these different kinds of books will help you understand "what kind of writing" you're getting into before you begin your study. (c) Third, pick a book and first familiarize yourself with the book's introduction, i.e. the date, author, historical context, literary genre, and like topics...this information will assist you in framing the book's overall messages and meanings within Scripture. (d) Fourth, begin your study of the book. Bible study isn't just reading...it's slowly and carefully absorbing the words, passages in context, and their messages. You may use the study Bible notes to assist you, but be mindful that some interpretations may vary somewhat between people. While doing your studies, be always asking yourself, "what did the original author mean," "what did this mean to the original audience," and "how does this apply to me and Christians today?" Take your time...meditate on it...sometimes meanings and messages become apparent over time. What books are recommended (by me) to start with? Jonah and Ruth in the Old Testament. In the New Testament, I'd recommend Matthew and perhaps Ephesians...the first half explains who we are "in Christ" and the second half relates to Christian behaviors. Bible study is indeed challenging...but the rewards are huge and not available anywhere else.

Good point, and sooner or later a good study Bible is a must (rather sooner than later--lol). However, even study Bibles have biases or slants. So, these foundational laws are first steps to actually studying the Bible, not what someone else's notes tell you to think. Just remember, just because it's called a "Study Bible" doesn't mean its supplemental notes are accurate or valid.

I humbly suggest the KJV, the NASB-95 (not the NASB-20!) & the CSB. I would never rely on the NIV as my primary source for bible study. Study bibles help, as do Christian Bible scholars like Dr. Michael Heiser (if you truly want to be able to connect the dots) and, of course, hours and hours of personal digging.

Most christians do not even know that Paul's 7 letters are FIRST and gMark was the first gospel 10-20 years AFTER Paul's letters. Read "gMark" and understand it and then when you read Luke you will notice 52% of it is from gMark and in gLuke 90% of Mark is in there and as the gospels get later in time Jesus gets more powerful and miracles embellished. Also realize we have no idea who wrote the gospels as they are anonymous.

“Salvation is not gained by moral perfection. It is a gift that comes by grace, through faith (Eph. 2:8-9). That in turn means salvation cannot be lost by moral imperfection. What is not at all gained by performance cannot be lost by poor performance. Salvation is about believing loyalty-trusting what Jesus did to defeat Satan’s claim and turning from all other gods and the belief systems of which they are a part.” Dr. Michael Heiser, OT Scholar (RIP)

Thanks for watching the video, and I appreciate the quote. I am in complete agreement with it, and I hope you did not get the impression that I don't hold to the eternal security of the believer.

Get out of your own personal safe space and get a good study bible. Venture out and realize there are others who may or may not agree with you and that does not mean THEY are wrong. Be like the Rabbis of old who debated all these issues the bible brings up and they never went around saying, "Well, you're not a REAL Rabbi!" _The New Oxford Annotated Bible with Apocrypha:_ Fifth Edition: New Revised Standard Version: by Michael Coogan (Editor), Marc Brettler (Editor), Carol Newsom (Editor), Pheme Perkins (Editor) _HarperCollins Study Bible:_ Fully Revised & Updated by Harold W. Attridge (Author), Society of Biblical Literature (Author)

I appreciate the dialogue, but I don't Jesus would have agreed with you about Rabbis and accepting all points of views as valid. Jesus, being a Rabbi himself, taught with authority and he rejected the mainstream teachings and traditions promoted by the majority of Rabbis in his day. That is a major emphasis in his Sermon on the Mount. However, I appreciate that you took the time to watch and consider the video.

@@askabibleprof7099 What? You're going by what the bible says about what Jesus supposedly said about the Rabbis and Pharisees! Read the 668 page book _The Pharisees_ by Joseph Sievers (Editor), Amy-Jill Levine (Editor) Man, that's how anti-semitism got/gets started! Study! You just blew it off! Plus I am also talking about the Rabbis AFTER Jesus. What is wrong with people that they just don't study these issues and yet call themselves bible prof? Apparently you have no idea what they debated and argued over My point stands!

@@askabibleprof7099 Have you read _The Pharisees_ by AJ Levine? simple question. Let's see if he answers. So far 0. He always twists my words into something I never said anyway. lol. A simple yes or no will do. I will wait.

@@askabibleprof7099 LOL.
