*Zipporah, Moses’ Midianite wife, reminds us that God can use anyone, regardless of background or circumstance, to accomplish His purposes. Zipporah, a foreigner, became an important companion to Moses in his journey to liberate the people of Israel. To everyone reading this, may God grant our brothers and sisters the openness to accept and love everyone, regardless of their cultural or background differences.*

This video does a wonderful job of bringing to light the often-overlooked role of Zipporah in the Bible. Her bravery, wisdom, and cultural complexity make her a truly remarkable figure in Moses's story. The detailed exploration of her actions-especially the moment when she intervened to save Moses-reveals her deep spiritual insight and understanding of the covenant. It’s a powerful reminder of the strength and quiet influence that women in biblical history often had, even when their stories are not always told in full. Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful and enriching analysis!

Here are a few things to consider: Zipporah may not have been Moses' first wife. Josephus the Jewish historian tells the story of Moses marrying an Ethiopian princess when he was commander of the Pharoah's army. This would have been before he fled Egypt to Midian. That he was married to an Ethiopian is reflected in Numbers 12.1 where we are told that Moses had a Cushite wife. Cush is the ancient name for Ethiopia. So, Moses had two wives, one an African and the other an Arab. Also, we are told that Zipporah's father was named Reuel in Exodus 2.18. Many suppose that this man had two names, because we are told in Exodus 3.1 that his father-in-law was named Jethro. What most forget is that between the end of chapter 2 and the beginning of chapter 3, forty years has passed, and Moses is no longer 40 but 80 years old. No doubt Reuel is dead by now, and has been replaced as priest by Jethro. Besides, the Hebrew word translated as father-in-law merely indicates a relative by marriage. I imagine that Jetho is Moses' brother-in-law.

Zipporah or Tsipprah in Ethiopian is Ethiopian and daughter of a king called Raguel. Mediam is the land of the then ethiopia through the valleys of river ghion (nile). Josephus had cited it correctly.

Cush wasn’t an ancient name of Ethiopia. Its ancient name is Abyssinia. Cush is a place right in modern Sudan, at the time part of ancient Egypt. Cush was very powerful kingdom which invented the use of metal. Nowadays, a group of peoples’s languages is called Cushitic such us Somali, Afar, Oromia etc. of course, some of these groups live in present day Ethiopia!

Moses didn't circumcise his son as he was supposed to do. Zipporah, knowing that God was angered by this, did the circumcision herself. It is a tradition that men only performed at that time. She saved Moses's life by doing so.
@amandagardner87883 ай бұрын
I agree, this is how I see the situation as well. Because the husband, Moses is the leader of the family, he should have performed the circumcision. Why he did not, could have been out of love and respect to his wife's heritage. She knew this. And talking to God, reminds him of her ancestral blood of Abraham takes matters in her own hands. Out of love, guilt, shame she defended her husband. A wife is compared to an army in the Bible...ezer kenegdo. Imo she repented. And repentance comes with action...the circumcision. A sacrifice. Zipporah, I hope to meet you one day.

While watching an exploration of the story of Moses and Zipporah (Moses' wife), I noticed the striking moment when God sought to take Moses's life due to the lack of circumcision of his son. This incident emphasizes the importance of adhering to God's covenant, which mandated that the Israelites circumcise their sons as a sign of their commitment to God. The motive behind God's actions highlights His commitment to justice; as a just God, God cannot overlook violations of the laws and ordinances established for the Israelites. It is noteworthy that Zipporah, recognizing the urgency of the situation, swiftly took matters into her own hands by circumcising their son with a flint. This decisive action ultimately saved Moses, preventing the harsh consequence of God's judgment for Moses' oversight.

You state correctly that Zipporah and her father’s family are Medianites, descendants of Abraham and his last wife Keturah. This means that Jethro’s family 😊are covenant children also. Moses, on the other hand, having been brought up in the Court of Pharaoh, means that most probably Moses may not have known of God’s covenant with Abraham - Zipporah, knew and was brought up in the covenant!

More than likely, due to her pagan practices, Zaporah was the reason their son had not been circumsized. Instead of upholding his covenant with The Father, once again, a man listened to a woman and did the opposite. Zaporah knew this, which is why she circumsized him the way she did and threw it at his feet.

The Lord would not have killed Moses but punished him. If the Lord killed Moses, then who would be used to lead the people out of Egypt. God has his people who he plans to use to do his will, not ang and anybody.

Midianites being Abraham's descendants had to have the circumcision too so as not to be ' cut off,' from Abraham's lineage. That is the everlasting covenant God gave Abraham. So she knew the seriousness of it because God had warned Abraham thatanyn.man of his line who was not circumcised would be cut off from his people. Now, they had not circumcised Moses's children because they saw him as an Egyptian. That is how they introduced him to their Dad.

Thank you very much for showing the real possibilities that Jesus and civilization began in Africa. Although whites have taken these cities out of Africa and put them in the middle east. This story and others show people that look like me and we can relate to.We have been beaten and hurt in ways that we will never totally heal. We have to take this pain to the grave. It gives us hope that we are loved and that we count. Although civilization started in Africa and many people migrated to European countries and their color over time became lighter and lighter. People talk about the garden of Eden and don’t talk about the continent of Africa. We have been taught that none of the people in biblical stories told were my color. In fact, the opposite was taught concerning Shem and the curse put on him by Noah. I’ve read that part of the Bible paragraph and it’s inconceivable that the paragraph has been and is still used as a weapon against us to continue the racist rhetoric of slavery. Going into a country and killing people because of their skin color is reprehensible. Pitting people against each other is sadistic. Even now, especially with permission from Trump to hurt others, to act out, kill, and maim other people continues. We haven’t come very far and the people that stand on the sidelines and do nothing to stop it is as guilty as the people doing it. Now, people want to re-elect him again shows we haven’t learned anything.

I beg to differ slightly How about… Zeporah being the one who understands the monotheism more than Moses. Remember-She is the daughter of a priest in the lineage of Abraham. The very father of monotheism. Abraham must have raised all his sons to follow his one through God irrespective of if they were born by Sarah, Keturah, Hagar, or other concubines for that matter. Let us remember that Moses was raised in the house of pharaoh of Egypt from infancy . We all know that Egyptians historically were not monotheistic. So his knowledge of the ways of monotheism cannot be that I say this because she knew the problem when the Lord struck Moses and what to do to save Moses. The narrator also speaks about Aaron who was well versed in the ways of the Israelites,and some elders dinning with Jethro- the Priest of Medain. When describing Jethro, there is significance in the word usage of HIGH PRIEST if they were Idolators as implied; I doubt the highlight and emphasis will be as profound. We rarely saw the Bible describe the “High priest of Baal” for instance. If there was no commonality in belief, it would have been difficult. We can all attest to the hardheadedness of the Israelites of this time from biblical accounts. She was indeed special is all I can say . Thank you for the insight.
