The nodes of the moon's orbit are the points where it passes through the plane of Earth's orbit; an eclipse season occurs each time the line connecting these nodes, the line of nodes, points toward the sun. It's like being surprised that a full moon has something to do with the Sun.

yes and no, because the sun and moon are not always "conjunct" the node (south or north) during an eclipse.

@@nikonik21 Do eclipses happen on the nodes? The Sun crosses the ascending node on the Vernal Equinox. It crosses the descending node on the Autumnal Equinox. Lunar eclipses can occur at either node. However, the Moon must be in the full moon phase as it passes the node in order for a lunar eclipse to occur. You're welcome
