I used to be a libertarian, so I listened to a lot of Mises institute stuff. Nothing much from Gary North, but I was aware of his existence. It would be interesting to observe the point where Christianity and libertarianism meet. I discarded much of my political ideas when I was saved. Maybe I should review some of them now. Get some Gary North books lol. 😁

The following observation is a complex situation, but it has caused me to ponder North's aversion to Classical Christian Education. One of my daughters became so enamored of Western Civ and Classical studies, including early church history and Great Books, that the proselyting professors at Hillsdale had little trouble leading her into Catholicism. She's now a Dominican Nun. We had attempted to give her what we (her parents) had never had, i.e. a Classical Christian Education, but we discovered too late we were dealing with powerful ideas and concepts whose implications we did not fully appreciate and were not equipped to counter. Just be careful as you educate your children; you're handling fire.

Education is what lead me away from Protestantism and into Catholicism too. Reading the church fathers made it clear Protestantism was false. “To be in history is to cease to be Protestant” - John Henry Newman. Protestants simply have to accept that they are out of line with the ancient church.

How can you believe your salvation is secured in Christ if you are not a 5 point Calvinist? Arminians can change their mind, lose faith, and reject the gospel offer of their own free will and Jesus can only plead passively from the sidelines hoping you change your mind.

Not relevant to this video, but desperately seeking answers about this: recently the pastor of the church I’ve been attending told the congregation that God will not hear the prayers of an unbeliever. They implied that you might as well not even pray if you’re an unbeliever because God will ignore you. I know where he’s getting that info from. I know what verses he’s pulling from. But I never understood the scripture to mean it in that way. If it’s true that we should be reading the scripture in that way, than what about the children who pray to God?

Oddly enough North largely rejected biblical economics from a biophysical perspective. Fundamental economics is energy acting on created materials for need satisfaction. Only secondarily is this activity monetary. The basis for a biblical view of material/monetary wealth in Deuteronomy 14:24-26.
@Bane_questionmark
@Bane_questionmark 2 жыл бұрын
I don't see the connection between those verses and this concept of economics needing to be seen in this biophysical way. And I don't know anything about this idea beyond your comment, but it seems like an overly reductionist perspective. Yes energy being expended to do work is the basis of all action, but something's economic value is not strictly connected to its biophysical "cost" of energy to produce. Again though I could be misunderstanding your meaning.
@johnbrooks7144
@johnbrooks7144 Жыл бұрын
That is manufacturing and farming and mining, not economics. Economics is the observation of how people make a living from their work. There are two views of economics: the classic definition is "the allocation of scarce resources among infinite demands". A more accurate description is mutual benefit, people with money get goods and people with goods get money. Money is defined as that most marketable commodity. Money can be sold anywhere in exchange for real goods and services.
