In every episode Rev. Andrew Stehlik, Th.D. will introduce you to something you might not know about the bible or biblical times. Everyone has heard of the Phoenix, but did you know that this creature joins the list of those in the biblical bestiary? What a marvelous and hopeful image for us on this coming Pentecost Sunday.

@@andrewstehlik3917 He has the correct verse, but you have to find the correct translation. "Then I said: 'I shall die with my nest, And I shall multiply my days as the phoenix" I used to be KJV only. However, given this verse, among others, I use a few translations

@@Christian-uc2qi Precisely, here is that verse in Hebrew: וָ֭אֹמַר עִם־קִנִּ֣י אֶגְוָ֑ע וְ֜כַח֗וֹל אַרְבֶּ֥ה יָמִֽים׃ (Job 29:18) In many translations the Hebrew word ח֗וֹל is translated as "sand" but since ancient times it has been considered to mean "Phoenix" - mythical ctŕeature of that name (CHOL) has been known to Talmudic rabbis. Differences and irregularities in ancient translations seem to point also this way.

@@paschalmk313 For instance in Lexicon in Veteris Testamenti Libros by Koehler-Baumgartner: CHOL - "Job 29:18 Evidently the bird Phoenix, but no etymology." When the context is a nest, expanding days etc. it simply fits in.

No, I said that Phoenix belongs to the Bible's mythical bestiary together with Nehushtan, Leviathan or Behemoth.
