Bicycle Touring Gear The Hilleberg Tarp 5

Garry’s latest addition to his bicycle touring gear is the Hilleberg Tarp 5. Garry’s been using his Hilleberg Staika tent over the winter period, which is a great tent. Unfortunately Garry found it annoying when the tent was wet and he opened the door. The water would drip in on the inner tent. What Garry needed was something to go over the door of the tent.

This site is becoming a home from home. I just bought a tarp 3mx3m to cover my MSR Elixir 2. It is by a company Rayco off Amazon. £24.99. It had lots of good reviews and having used it I'm pretty impressed. Never been a tarp person, but faced with days of torrential rain in France I had to take one with me. It was worth it's weight in gold. Not only keeps the tent dry and adds a sizeable porch but keeps the sun and bird crap off the tent. When are you going back to the Isle of Wight? Do you venture further west than the New Forest ie into Dorset? Must be some nice places and campsites there.

Haha, the New Forest seems to be as far as I can manage these days, especially with the time frames I have. I totally agree with your comment about tarps; they’re brilliant. I was supposed to be going into Dorset when I filmed this video, but I decided to stay put after getting flooded out. kzbin.infoUZ8Phpt8JLM I'm not too sure when I’ll return to the Isle of Wight, one of the campsites I used to like to use has closed.

No Grange Farm is still there. It's a campsite on the other side of the island.

@@travelsonabike2 That's a relief. Grange Farm looks a lovely campsite. Not sure which other campsite on the island you mean? Maybe I have missed your videos where you showed it. Not to worry as you say it's now closed. I am sure there are others. When the weather settles down I really want to do a short tour say starting from Winchester riding to S'ampton then crossing to the IoW say for a week. I live in East Anglia. The thought of riding around or through London with all the busy roads and psycho drivers terrifies me so I get the train to say Winchester and start from there. Could also incorporate the New Forest as well on my return. ATB Garry. Good luck with the hospital visits.

It was only a Camping and Caravan Club site at Adgestone, and although I used to go there regularly, I don’t think I did properly show it. London is okay these days; there are plenty of cycle routes, but I don’t blame you for missing it. Stay safe and keep peddling.
