And very little mention of the packed schedule he had just before this event when he was coming down with a cold. Admit it, you got scared. But there is no way Americans will vote for a convict, a traitor, an insurrectionist, a rapist of little children (yes, turns out little boys, too). These two men are still young. Once you're approaching 70, you begin contemplating your own mortality and it's a hard pill to swallow. Biden still has a lot of fight left in him. He needs more sleep. If he has a regret it's that he should've slept more before the debate. So if he's 'not at peace,' with his decision, that's because he feels he can still govern, still kick Trump's ass in the election. But he's clearly highly intelligent and open to advice from others. He did what he thought would be best for the country. I think when he gets out on the stump for Kamala Harris, or launches a few new initiatives he's going to look up in a way that says, "See, I've still got it." And if you ask him he'll say, "Yes, I accept it just wasn't worth the risk." Then he'll add, "I am so proud of how Kamala has risen to the challenge. She's going to be an amazing president." We had a debate between two candidates, one old and tired that night, the other a convicted criminal, liar, rapist, only out for himself. Was there a way for Joe Biden to change what happened? He was probably planing on winning the next one, instead what he did won the first debate in retrospect. He did the right thing. Trump is incapable of doing anything selfless. So who would be the better president a tired man with intelligence and integrity or a jumpy criminal who's never read a book?

Biden has been a great president and would have had a great next term. But the one thing he is most incapable of doing at this stage of his life is a debate. To be able to speak unscripted now, he needs to be able to go very slowly and take his time, and not be under intense pressure. He struggles too much now with the physical act of speaking. I think he was sick and exhausted, and that his preparation was wrong - far too many facts and figures that he tried to get through rapidly. He really needed to just make a few general statements that connected with the American people, which he could have delivered slowly as an elder statesman. He needed to call out Trump's outrageous lies more (the moderators did no fact checking at all), and if the rules had allowed for having pen and paper to make notes, that would have helped him so much. Anyway, it's all in the past now. Let's home Kamala can get this done. And I hope Joe gets a hero's welcome at the convention.

Joe Biden talked about passing the torch to a new generations, about there being a place for new voices, fresh voices, younger voices. That was plenty good enough for me. There was no reason for him to elaborate on his physical limitations under these circumstances. If he was staying IN the race, yes, we need to know those things. But not if he's getting out. As for Biden being at peace with his decision, it's only natural that at SOME level he would be conflicted over it. But his public remarks since he stepped down have not reflected whatever ambivalence he must feel. I hope Biden has other biographers besides this dude.

Quran (only scripture with 100% accuracy/preservation) says Allah is “Al-Ahad”(one/indivisible).Philosophically, It is impossible for 3 distinct perfections to exist simultaneously. Father (Perfection 1/distinct1) =Son (Perfection 2/distinct2)=idolatry.This is due to addition of two extra perfections that are Co-equal/Co-eternal&distinct with Allah(the most Exalted). Not just the Quran, but also the old/New Testament textually establish tauheed(monotheism). So, then why believe in trinity and associate two imaginary parts to Allah(one/indivisible/Self-Sufficient/All-Loving)? How could your love/worship be undivided/exclusive for Allah(the most Exalted) when there are two other equally unique/perfect entities to adore? The verses of bible used by trinitarians are extremely vague and require hard interpretation to extract the understanding that Father/Son/Holy Ghost are Co-equal/Co-Eternal&distinct.

Dear biden: you did the right thing. I respect your decision. It was are you so arrogant and power hungry that you would literally hand america over to a dictator, or would you drop out of the race and prove that you care more about america than your own bid for even more power. I would not have voted for you again. You would have lost. Trump would have won. Thank you for doing the right thing.

Perhaps Mr Osnos has the blind spot about Pres Biden? He is still fully capable of performing the duties of the presidencies. His struggle was with the artificial performance art of the debate. But someone who communicates for a living, like Osnos, may miss the distinction.

I think ppl need to keep in mind that in a few short years (or even months) a person in their 70s-80s can rapidly decline. But in your amateur analysis, have you considered that Biden is a bit slower at dealing with his stutter at his age? I have dealt with dementia in the family, and see much more serious signs in Trump, but the corporate media do not hold him to the same standard as they do Biden. Notice that Biden has been calling for the rich to pay their fair share and ask yourself what part that played in the endless bashing of Biden after the debate. Notice that the Democrats that demanded he step down are the ones most closely associated with corporate donors.

This interview is so much not Amanpour content. Suggestions from our interviewer whom I used to respect, with his “Lion in Winter” phraseology, simply blows me away. Biden and the DNC had an obligation to their supporters to speak truth so long ago it hurts. And may hurt us moving forward. The nomination should be open to all, Biden’s “war chest” be danged and Harris’ coronation should wait until all ideas are heard from many great & qualified younger leaders. We have the capacity to do this with modern technology and likely win over many fence sitters & corporations as we invite them to become part of a new solution to dysfunction. C’mon America! Let’s get it on here!

Good question. I am kind of disgusted with the ageism that has plagued him through this whole presidency -- late night comedians. It's apparently still an acceptable "ism." What if he is more frail? I think he is as sharp and able as ever. I doubt it was a "cover-up." I think he believes in himself and is surrounded by people who also believe in him. Nothing wrong with that. Being a little physically diminished does not mean not being able to do the job.

Perhaps this interviewer should consider retiring. He’s old and slower so maybe it’s time for this “ lion in winter” to retreat to his lair. He won’t because he doesn’t have the grace that Joe Biden has. No, he didn’t give up his position quickly but in truth we will miss his statesmanship. There was no cover up. These conspiracy theories are just ugly. I detest this vein of questioning. I’m done with this interview.
