Rest in peace, President Carter. Jimmy Carter served as the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981. He was awarded the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize for work to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development. This is what the presidency should be about. He left behind an honorable legacy - that the next four years can never hope to achieve. January 9th is scheduled for his funeral and has been designated as a national day of mourning. January 20th - for at least half this nation - will be also be a national day of mourning - but for vastly different reasons.

I have a Jimmy Carter Peanut large gunny sack from his own peanut farm. I also have a campaign wind up smiling plastic peanut that walks that says "You like him, he likes you." He was in office when I was 17 in high school in 1978. I once sent him a large photo of him he personally signed for me. I did this with all the presidents and they all signed them for me. Once I was in a thrift store and came across one of his many books he wrote. I opened it and glanced at the entry page. He had personally signed it with a small photo enclosed with it showing him signing the book. Remarkable. No one knew or they would have priced it more. I bought it for only $2.00. He will live on in all our memories. He is indeed young again in the arms of his lord and savior Jesus Christ also with his eternally young wife of 77 years of marriage forever and eternally together never to be separated ever again. He and her are now eternally at peace with his beloved mother and father as well as all his siblings who went before him and friends he knew on this earth. A truly remarkable man.
