What a treat, stopped by home for lunch and found this mid day Look Out post. Fascinating as always, thanks Zeke. A quick word on beetle kill in the Sierra. I am a tree climber and in 1991 worked in the Tahoe Basin. We spent the whole summer cutting dead trees. Nest place I have ever worked in. Perfect weather lots of room between houses, not much landscaping up in the snow country. As climbers we loved it lots of big trees you could wreck out in 2 or three cuts. But my point is at that point folks were freaking out saying there wouldn’t be a conifer left in a decade. Well here we are. It is spooky to see big swathes of dead trees, and climate change is definitely stressing more and more trees but I still have faith that maybe nature knows what it’s doing and will adapt, is adapting,by reducing competition for resources amongst trees. Time will tell.

A pack of us rode road bicycles from Butte Meadows to Inskip and back again Sunday, then up to Jonesville. I counted maybe 60 lowboy trailers up there, maybe more. There are a LOT of D6's and etc working up that way. Major firebreaks going in and who knows what else. It was borderline cold there Sunday AM.

It's a band called the Avant Gardeners, who were a Plumas County party band from the late 1990s/early 2000s. Not sure if any of their music is online, but I bet there are some CDs out there. I'll ask the guitar player,

Gee I thought the Boise fire would have been rained on last Saturday with those lines of cbs that came in from the coast. Weaverville got siaked, rain in Trinity and Redding area.

The usfs forest management practices are very severe. The loss of species studies may or may not include all that is lost.
