God bless you Biff. I remember seeing Saxon for the first time in about 1980 opening for Motorhead at Leicester De Montfort Hall. They were debuting material from the Wheels Of Steel album and I was really impressed with them. Keep on keeping on!

What an absolutely great interview! I loved the way mr. Byford delved in to what made a great cover for their albums. It always grants you more depth in to the their artwork hearing what they include in their art, hearing what they want to present in their art.

A phenomenal singer and gentleman that has aged like fine wine. Ive never been the BIGGEST saxon fan, but their trajectory has been amazing. In my opinion, 70s priest is best, 80s maiden is best, and 2000s saxon is best (theres overlap in there too lol)

Why did the 1993 album 'Forever Free' have two different cover designs?
@theartofheavymetal7 ай бұрын
Not sure, I wasn’t aware that the original had a second cover. I’ll ask Biff if I get the chance! know it was re-issued, and the Forever Free single release had a different cover.

Crusader was the last album i bought by saxon, i just diddent like it, before that i liked saxon even better than maiden for quite a while until number of the beast came out, i hear theit latest one is very good, might try it out, its been nearly 40 years since crusader, getting old !!

Carpe Diem is definitely worth a listen! I have to give them credit for sticking with it all these years, staying Saxon while modernizing their sound and approach. It's been a few years, but they were still a great live band last I saw them too.

Was a fan in the 80's starting when I first heard Denim And Leather, then Princess Of The Night. Not a huge fan until I started listening to Innocence Is No Excuse. Lost track of them in the early 90's and thought they disappeared. Rediscovered them in the late 90's with a mixed, compilation CD and then Eagle Has Landed II. The moment I heard Forever Free live, and Unleash The Beast on the compilation, I knew I had to search them out more. I think they sound just as good from the 90's to the present, if not better, than the first few albums. A little heavier, but not too crazy. They became my favorite band and I became obsessed with them! Have every release now. Had tickets to see them in '05 300 miles from where I live in Ontario, in Cleveland. Tour got cancelled due to work visas. 2nd time, the only festival I could get my passport for in time was Iowa. Was going to do a 1000 mile road trip. Festival got cancelled! Finally saw them on Call to Arms in Detroit AND Toronto (wasn't taking the chance they cancelled Canada!). My GF t-boned a car on her bike the day before their stop in Detroit in 2015. Seen them every time after! Believe me John R, pick up anything from the 1990's to now and you won't be disappointed!

I think they should have KEPT the band's name S.O.B. 🤫🤣 As they say - you can always tell a Yorkshireman, but you can't tell him much ..
