The main reason is that about 15% of the illegal people that are in our country are put on Social Security and this severely changes the amount of people on Social Security. The sh----t has hit the fan and the poor planning by the government we have now has done it. They get 87,000 new IRS agents but the need for more people in SS has also the same problem, soon there will be more agents and less money left for the People that are on it Because it is increase in people that would not happen without the Illegal people. The number on SS should be going down not UP. Baby Boomers numbers are going down but the Illegals are going UP.

I don't know where people got the idea that Social Security was meant to be the sole means of income when someone retired; but, somewhere along the line it begin to be seen that way. I only have my Social Security because I spent nearly 12 years taking care of my mother, my mother's business & her property. That was when a family member could not be paid for providing these services. Our society doesn't want us "old people" & tend to view us as parasites. Dr. Weir, maybe I misheard you, but I believe you misspoke. Cutting taxes on Social Security will not affect how much money goes into Social Security. FICA taxes will remain the same. When I filed my tax return, my social security, which was already taxed in the beginning, was taxed again depending on how much other income I have as a retired person. President trump and apparently now Vice President Harris are both suggesting that Social Security benefits should not be taxed again. What will happen if Social Security benefits are not taxed is obvious, less revenue for Uncle Sam. Not to worry, our lawmakers will take care of that, raise taxes elsewhere, and probably even more to cover the "shortfall " To my way of thinking, it's an issue of fairness. We've already paid Social Security through the fica taxes that came out of our paycheck. SS benefits should not be taxed again!

I am 73 and diabetic and have Humana Advantage. Recently my doctor phoned in a prescription for Lantis (sp?). Humana pays approximately $20 and I pay $93. Humana refused to allow the pharmacy to fill the prescription because it was "too soon." I figured if I paid the full amount and didn't use Humana at all (only a $20 difference) that would solve the problem but Humana still would not let the pharmacy fill the prescription. Why does Humana have any right to refuse if I bypass them and pay the full amount?

When I got home I realized I had forgotten the medicine which is why my doctor gave me a new prescription. The problem was not with the pharmacy which was willing to fill the prescription. The problem was the insurance company who made the refusal. My point is that if I pay the full amount out if pocket and not involving them in any way, why do they still have the right to refuse authorization? The way I see that situation is that it would only be between the doctor, the pharmacy and myself. Humana should have no say in the matter if I am not using them.

The problem is with the pharmacy because if you want to pay cash then the prescription is not filed with Humana. Chances are the "cash price" is higher than $113. Unexpectedly I am receiving charges to the tune of around $ 1,000.. total for last year! I can tell you right now that I won't be going to the Dr. twice a year. The Dr. spends all of 10 minutes in the room with me, a lot of the time not even listening to my heart & charge $ 150. & up, per visit. The only meds I take are the ones I have to take to keep me living. Also, nurses (some) are NOT kind like they used to be. I had a broker tell me my last broker lied and I was eligible for a dual plan. I get share of cost Medicaid...not the same as regular Medicaid, so I'm not actually "on" Medicaid because I make a couple hundred too much. My share of cost is nearly as much as my SS check. Worthless unless you have surgery or some serious something happens to you, but it's always nice to have that in the background just in case. That said, the new dual plan wasn't a "give back" plan and she didn't bother to tell me. My next SSDI check was $525 short becasue they took back payments on the Medicare Part B cost and I didn't know until it hit me! "THE" SS letter didn't come until after they took that money and I called to find out what happened!! I hope nobody else gets that done to them. And then the denials started because I wasn't actually "eligible" for the dual plan...so my finances and insurance have been messed up big time this year, and I will be dropped from the insurance plan before the end of the year. 🤦🏻‍♀

How do the people who say they can’t afford a Medigap premium afford the co-pays/higher deductibles/out-of-pocket of an Advantage plan?

They get what they can afford and hope they don't get sick.

If they went with just original Medicare alone, they would have the $175 monthly Part B premium, and 20% Part B copays (after reaching the small Part B deductible, and a Part A Hospital admission deductible of $1632. And no prescription drug benefit. A Plan G Supplement and Part D rug plan will typically run about $2000-$3000 per year in premiums, regardless of usage, and would just have to pay on top of that the modest Part B deductible every year, plus any Part D copays. Most Advantage plans are zero premium, and zero deductible, but you still have to pay the Part B premium, and you have copays for services (often a flat fee), with an annual cap on out-of-pocket copay costs. Enrollees are figuring their copays won't amount to that $2000-$3000 they would pay every year in premiums if they had a Supplement and separate Part D drug plan, but they would still not have the cost exposure they would have with just Medicare alone. This issue with Medicare Advantage isn't getting "sick", as much as it would be if one has or develops a serious chronic condition that would require ongoing costly treatment.

I reached my FRA. I lost my disability. But, I retired early, so my reduced retirement stayed the same. It never went to "full" retirement.

I ask this question before. when moving from ssdi medicare if you paid a late enrollment penalty would that end when you turn 65 and hit the new open enrollment. You stated no it would not end. My sister just turned 65 and her new premium does not reflect the penalty. Shee has the paperwork and was told by SSA the penaltybended.
