It was a $10 harbor freight strap. It broke because someone thought it was a good idea to thread it between two sharp metal holes

I did stupid stuff like that when I was in college and didn't have any better sense, it was fun but STUPID.. When you high center anything it is going to get stuck. I am much older and a lot wiser now and really get a kick out of watching people tear up their $30,000 trucks. Back in the day they didn't cost that much. They must have more money than brains. the reason your straps are breaking is because those are TOW straps, not RECOVERY straps, tow straps arent stretchy and more flexible and are made for flat towing, while recovery straps stretch and flex to help use the energy from the elasticity and dont snap like that

Spent many a times getting stuck around that same area. I grew up hunting in that exact place and someone would always get stuck, especially breaking through the ice holes where the old railroad was.
