I remember the first time I went to Busch Gardens to ride The Big Bad Wolf. I had some vacation time from work and wasn’t sure what to do with it. My colleague Louise handed me a section of the New York Times newspaper that Sunday, and as soon as I opened it, there was a big spread about the opening of The Big Bad Wolf in Williamsburg, VA. I fell in love with it right away and made all kinds of arrangements and reservations to head to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg to ride it. The day I got there, I almost didn’t get to ride it because it wasn’t ready and was still having issues. But the next day, I finally got to ride it, and man, it was the bomb! It was the first suspended coaster I had ever ridden. The way it came off the hill and swung over the village-type houses was amazing. My favorite part was when it swung alongside the villages and there was a church bell that made an echoing bong sound as if the coaster had hit the bell as we flew by. It was great! When the coaster came down by the river, it felt like it was going 60 miles an hour, swinging back and forth. Oh my god, I loved that coaster so much that when I was a truck driver, I took the name “The Big Bad Wolf” as my CB handle. I sure do miss that ride, but I’ve heard rumors that they might bring it back in a different format at Williamsburg. That would be a great tribute to the original Big Bad Wolf. I love saying that name, “The Big Bad Wolf.” It sounds like me, LOL.

The big Bad Wolf was the 2nd roller coaster I rode in my life. I had a deep fear of them after riding the Hurricane in Fla at too young a age. I came out of the seat ( when they only used lap bars, yes I'm old ) In middle school our class went to Bush Gardens and my bestie talked me into it. I'm so glad she did too. It broke my fear and the 3rd coaster in my life was the Lochness right after. After growing up and having a family of my own. I took my son to Bush Gardens when he was 9 years old and the Big Bad Wolf was his first coaster ever. So, alot of history with that coaster. I am thrilled at the fact it may be coming back and my son ( who is 27 now ) and I will be there when it returns. Memories are forever =)

I only went to Busch Gardens once back in mid 90s but I still remember Big Bad Wolf vividly. I've told my family about it several times when on summer vacations etc. So I came one line today thinking about 2025 plans and stumbled on learning that BBW was decommissioned years ago, I was instantly sad to learn that, and then almost immediately saw these other posts and videos about the 'return of BBW'. So for all you enthusiasts, who are quite familiar with BBW or with Busch Gardens, happy and excited with you. Now as for my ride experience... I remember it was perfectly timed at dusk... zipping through the trees and the half-timber Germanic village was awesome. The swinging of the suspended coaster style was so fun. But... I know the last drop is well known, it was like, after being chased through the town and forest and twisting and turning, the rider calms down and leveled out, and if I remember correctly it came up parallel to the station through the trees, so it looked like you were done and gently circling back to the end. Then, and because being on it at sunset/dusk, the trees hiding the track ahead, BAM! That last sudden drop came out of nowhere! Totally like a real chase or in a movie where you think your safe but then the Wolf jumps out at the last minute and gets you. Just an amazing, amazing marriage of track design layout and ride theme. I really hope the capture that level of execution in this new ride. Either in your video or something I read, I saw a reference to a launch coaster crossing the water... to me that evokes the idea of high speed chase up to the waters edge and a sudden leaping to make an escape (or an attack) so that will be interesting to see how it develops.

When you’d ride BBW, when you’d drop down the first hill and into the village, a bell would ring to warn the village that the wolf was coming.

It was themed wonderfully with so many details! Maybe this new coaster will repeat some!

Oh yea! I noticed the two parks, BGW and BGT, like to copy each other and then just rename the coasters. Like Griffon and SheiKra. Maybe they are doing that with this new coaster.

9:55 - The poster even has the names of some of the engineers at Arrow Dynamics. Ron Toomer even has meme status among the coaster enthusiast community for the way he designed coaster elements by bending pieces of wire. Arrow developed several of BGW's coasters, including Nessie, Drachen Fire (which allegedly was supposed to be B&M), and of course, Big Bad Wolf

Good video, kinda smelly for the extreme coaster fans wanting an RMC or Intamin Giga. Iron Wolfenfire, the sister coaster to Gwazi at BGT would have been choice. I was able to ride BBW, it was a cool fun ride but never felt an adrenaline scare from it.
@SOLERAPTVАй бұрын
Never got to ride it but the way you describe what it was it sounds like the iron dragon at cedar point and top gun at kings island
@FrankenberryАй бұрын
Sorry guys... It's not gonna swing. It's a B&M family invert. No swinging, and likely no inversions. I'm guessing probably around 35 or 40 mph
@MattMcIrvinАй бұрын
What's a bit funny about it is that Big Bad Wolf was where Verbolten is now (and Verbolten's final drop is basically Big Bad Wolf's). But this new ride is where Drachen Fire was. The plans for that site changed more than once. Originally, the idea was for Intamin to make a truly gigantic launch coaster that would cross the water, then it got separated into two rides--one half became Pantheon, the other was "Drachen Spire". But the current plans for the site are completely different.

I am curious to see exactly what they do with old Dreken fire's area. I'm happy for a wolf theme to be returning.

It IS a B&M family invert…around 2500 feet long. It’ll be a decent replacement for Big Bad Wolf, but can’t truly replace the original. Phoenix Rising at Busch Gardens in Tampa is decent….hopefully they have more than one train ops though.

Judging from the POV's online it looks like it will be a little more tame than the original Big Bad Wolf. It looks like they are keeping the Drachen Fire station.

The original Big Bad Wolf was manufactured by defunct Arrow dynamics . It ended its service life in 2010 mainly because it could not get parts for the coaster since arrow dynamics went bankrupt!
