Olly, I’m 63, I have lived in and around the farming community in South Lincs all my life, my Dad was a land worker all is life, I went into engineering!. I have learnt more about farming watching Harry’s Farm and your videos in the last year or so than ever before. I find it absolutely fascinating. Your short snap shots of a day are superb. Great stuff!!

Good on the NFU, Hannah and you for supporting them Olly because whether the farming community like it or not there are still many outwith farming who think farmers are all rich, have an easy life and buy a new Range Rover every year when "WE" all know its far from the truth. Communicating what the farming community does 24/7 to the general public is a must. 80% today. Keep up the fab education and enjoyment. ❤️🏴.

Great video again Olly, I have spent most of my life around the farming community working . I have come across people who just don't understand what machines are or how things work, I would always try and explain what they did and the purpose they served. Its alright for people to mock , but not everyone knows and hats off to Sophie for asking because that's the only way to find out. 80% today.

Having worked mostly on playing fields and admittedly those with smaller wet spots, I always favoured pulling the front of the mired vehicle from an angle. That way the mired vehicle doesn`t follow in the "broken ground" of the towing vehicle and may have a chance to gain some momentum on better ground.

Great video, i think Sophie shows how ordinary folk really dont know about the ins and outs of farming and that is how we learn, by asking questions. I used to help out on a friends farm and we had nursery kids visiting the young calves and they did not even know that is where the meat for there burgers comes from, rather than tescos !!
@ronniehoyle9671 Жыл бұрын
Great video as always. I agree that the general public need educating on how farming works so what the nfu is doing is good. Here's an example of how some children and adults see farming.....they say why do we need farming when we can go to a shop for food. Another one.......a farmer and vet using a modern cattle crush to do the feet but someone spread it around that it was a deliberate torture device.

I'm part-time farming now after losing my farm tenancy and late 60s but still work on average 35 hours a week looking after a sheep farm but when farming properly worked a regular 10 hour day and 12 to 16 hours a day at busy times maybe 4 months a year and 7 days a week with maybe only 5 hour days at weekends ,Holidays only happened in winter time at last minute when nothing pressing with work and did not happen often sometimes years apart ,The hours i worked were and are certainly not unusual among my farming friends ,i would say they are normal and no farmer ever retires most winding down a bit in mid 70s seems to be the norm if they are still alive !

Hi Olly I work in the aerospace industry. If we carry out an investigation into something that has gone wrong . We often have someone on the investigation team that has never carried out that type of work. They are used as an external view, asking questions that might seem stupid to someone who does the job all the time. However they often see things that the experts don't as the experts are often too close to the job. How many times do you put your keys down in the same place but you just can not see them. If farming is to adapt and evolve then new people and new ideas need to be encouraged. Great video's by the way.

Good video. This is the trouble with the ag industry, everyone looks in not out. I think it would be great to see Sophie learn about the industry, then use it as a tool to show both non ag and ag people what our customers need to understand about the industry. Just as an example my friend's daughter nearly came to blows with her classmates, because they couldn't comprehend that an egg came from a chicken. EDUCATION all round is needed Rant over😬

Got to be 50 years between balers. The age difference between the two tractors must be in that region. I'd say the balers are basically the same, the new one just scaled up. The BIG advances will be between the two tractors. Always toe a stuck baler backwards if possible, lot less reel damage that way.

The Merlo dealers seem to have some link up with corvus ,our local merlo dealer also sell corvus ,fully agree with you about the nfu girl ,farmers are far too self centred ,im a farmer myself and the world does not revolve around farming ,many city people just need a little education about farming its one of the most important jobs nfu can do and do do and part of that education is having non farming background staff getting that message across as they see both sides of the coin
@ThePsiclone Жыл бұрын
yeah could you quit making me feel old, first time I was working on a farm that little baler was what everyone had, though ours was a Massey not IH. No mechanical handling then either, didnt even have a sled, which meant much walking and humping bales on a trailer one at a time. I was all of 11 or 12 then and thus I am not saying how many years between them haha
