Big Bend is a fantastic National Park. A friend just told me about the South Rim and highly recommended a visit. So spectacular to see it in your video. Good work and ATB in 2020!

Thanks for the kind comment. I think we are planning another trip in 2021 for my dad's 70th birthday and we might do South Rim again. It's definitely a hike I recommend but one I also recommend being in tip top shape for.

Amazing! You visited there in October, but lots of wildflowers were in bloom and the mountains were green. I want to visit the park in September, not sure if the mountains are green by then. Any thoughts? Thx.

Piset Sak hmmmm.. I’m really not sure honestly. I think it has a lot to do with the amount of rain as well. There was quite a bit of rain the weeks leading up to us going. I can say it is gorgeous no matter what though.

South rim looks AMAZING. Nice video. About how long was the hike to get there?
@ajmcglynn4 жыл бұрын
Well, we went to Emory peak first and that was a bit of a detour. We also chose a route that kept us on the rim longer so all told we had a 20 mile hike. We hit the trail just after 6am, got to Emory Peak at 10am and then the south rim at around 12:45pm. We finished the hike at around 6pm. I was 33 and my brother was 41, we were/are both really fit. I would not recommend attempting that kind of hike unless you're in really good shape. We both really felt it on the way down back to the basin and that's when my knees started killing me. I would do it again though and I think we just might in 2021.

Awesome video! Old maverick road looks awesome, I have a high clearance vehicle but no 4WD did you have it turn yours on ?
@ajmcglynn5 жыл бұрын
No not on Old Maverick. You should be totally fine on Old Maverick. It's pretty easy. I have a Mazda CX-5 and I would even drive that down it. River Road is the other one we went on and depending on the conditions you could need 4 wheel drive. We came across some water and we went into 4 wheel drive but didn't really need it. If it has rained recently I would not attempt river road without 4 wheel drive

Do you have to make a reservation to camp? And is there shower and restroom.
@ajmcglynn4 жыл бұрын
We camped in the Chisos basin. It’s a first come first serve basis so its important to arrive in the morning and claim a spot. There is a restroom at the basin campsites but no shower. We had to drive to the rio grande village to take a shower. You have to pay in quarters.

@@ajmcglynn Thank you for your answers. This place looks amazing. Hopefully one day I can visit.

@@ajmcglynn One more question. The routes that you took, can two wheel sedan go on those roads too?
@ajmcglynn4 жыл бұрын
musicluv80 ehhhh I would not recommend it at all. You need something off the ground and with decent sized tires. It’s not really getting stuck that you have to worry about it’s more that the roads are very rocky and with a smaller car you can puncture a tire or something. All the main roads are paved though. The two roads we took were more for fun and to get out and see different parts of the park.
@MusicLuv804 жыл бұрын
@@ajmcglynn Thanks for your answer. I think you are right, maybe I should not take my sedan there. Lol. Don't wanna be stuck in middle of nowhere.

Are there gas stations out there? And are they reasonably distanced ?
@ajmcglynn5 жыл бұрын
There are 2 gas stations located in the park. Panther junction is centrally located and is close to the main entrance. Rio Grande Village is on the eastern part of the park. They are decent distance from each other and as long as you plan smart and fill up often you'll be good. One thing to note is that fuel is more expensive there. Gas is about 70 to 80 cents more per gallon. So consider that when budgeting for a trip.

Is the shot at 12:34 south rim or Emory peak?
@ajmcglynn4 жыл бұрын
South Rim, I unfortunately didn't get any footage at Emory Peak, I just got some pictures. Emory peak is not flat at all and you literally have to scramble up to the top. The views are spectacular though.

Why does ever one who does a video of big bend have to add music. I would prefer no music
