I saw Big Black at the Whole Coffeehouse in the Coffman Union on the campus of the U of Minnesota!!! For real. Then I saw them at First Avenue two or three years later. Great shows. As a matter of fact if I recall due to Albinis fireworks I believe any punk ' tomfoolery' was banned at the Whole. I KNOW punk was out in the Great Hall after the ' incident' at the DKs show. Thanks for posting!!!!

Thanks for sharing those memories. I think a recording of the BB Whole show you mentioned exists, but I've never been able to track it down. There's definitely a Hüsker Dü set recorded at the Whole in circulation, from late '83 I believe, and it's an absolute banger. Sets at small venues like that are usually pretty great, in my experience. I saw White Lung play at this tiny hot dog joint in my city a few years back, and they completely blew the doors off the place. There were maybe 50 of us packed into the room, and by the end of the set, everyone was drenched in sweat from head to toe. Great times.

It’s crazy how big black gets little to 0 credit for bringing electronics into alternative, punk or whathaveyou music. While pos like Trent reznor gets all the credit. Give me a break
