They both looked STUNNING!! I wonder how they would've felt if they had more foundation garments on? Back then, you wouldn't have JUST had the bra, you'd also be wearing a girdle (the 50s answer to spanx) with clips for stockings. This would've held them in more & possibly not noticed the changes in the body as you ate, needed to pee, went pee, etc. similar to how spanx work today. Also, the ladies of the day didn't know any different - that's just how clothing worked, you know? They may have even felt very 'exposed' if they wore sweatpants & a teeshirt & were jiggling around! That's another thing - back then (indeed, probably for all time until about the 70s), your clothing & foundation garments gave you the proper silhouette of the day, whereas today you're expected to mold your actual body to whatever the 'body goals' of the moment are. Give me a padded girdle over a bbl any day! 🤭

They all look great! I just had my breast reduction on tuesday. Honey all my clothes that couldnt fit my breast now they do and I look amazing! Best decision ever and I went to lowest they could get cuz I wanted smaller than small.

They needed to have correct foundation garments with their dresses and they probably would have felt more comfortable. Those dresses were made to be worn with girdles unless they were made with built in boning like many of the couture dresses were at the time. I wish they had talked a bit more about dress history and why the “new look” was such an exciting fashion movement.

as someone who wears vintage fashion every day, it's definitely different to wear non-stretchy clothes. But that's just kind of a technology thing. Stretchy materials weren't very common yet in the 1950's (except for a little in undergarments), so it's generally a good idea to fit a garment to your body when you're inhaling somewhat so there's space to breathe comfortably. You certainly get used to it, and people probably didn't notice it all that much because that's just how their clothes always were. And of course there were clothes specifically designed for more strenuous work that had plenty of space for heavier breathing. Office or formal wear, however, could fit more tightly because you're not expected to do actual exercise in them, so the difference in you're chest when breathing in isn't very big. Also, knit materials might have be worn for intentional exercise. There's a great example of that in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

I have difficulty even finding authentic vintage for a plus sized woman with bigger breasts. I live in a city that has a couple of vintage shops. But they stop at a size 8 or 10. And I am an 18 in women's clothing.

Not to be mean because I’m not skinny either by any means(size 14 here) but even I know that they were much smaller and healthier back then(I’m only talking in terms of weight people, not with all the smoking they did) and we are NOT meant to be obese for human beings. Of course you aren’t going to find authentic clothing for the today’s person if they are seriously obese which Ashley here is. It’s not healthy for us regardless of what some people say. It’s not being fat phobic. It’s just telling the truth. Humans are just becoming way too obese in today’s world and it’s being taunted as great and empowering. Being way too skinny is not healthy either. There needs to be a happy medium and we shouldn’t be celebrating anorexia or obesity either as body positivity. Just saying.

I'll never forget the time I was about 17 and we were kinda half-road tripping through states after going to my brothers wedding. We stopped at this place that did dress-up and vintage-y photographs in black and white. I was around 200 pounds with (what I didn't know at the time) over a G bra size. (Blaming hormone pumped chicken nuggs and genetics on that one) So they weren't swimming in clothes to fit me, so I stuffed myself into this red dress for ten minutes to take a picture. All I remember was I was too big for it. Tight and uncomfortable. >_> Almost two decades later and I'm still fat and uber busty, but I've found clothes that actually fit my body on a regular basis (Torrid is heaven sent). This reminds me a bit of that. Good video. Don't get fat kids, it's not fun.

You have to breath differently in vintage and era centric clothing. Also most times the clothing was tailored to the person but pre bought like this. And adjust the way you move. Also it wasnt always about the man. A lot like the pandemic women would dress up to feel good about them self. And women most definitely when out at night by them self and to girls night out and things like that. Chaperoned outing were out of style in the 20’s. Women where a lot freer in the 50’s then people think. Ready dairy entries and letter from the time and watch a home movie or two or even some news reals. As someone who loves wearing vintage clothing and studying history past ya’ll perpetuating some of the miss conceptions people have of the era is a little insulting. For as much as yall got right you got a lot wrong too.
