Seasoning shed is looking great. The tractor seemed to be a big help, and as you two move forward with your plans, I think you would see great benefits in having one, both in savings over the long run and the fact that you won't have to wait to get this kind of work finished. See you all next week!

Be Careful with that what you built for your wood. Because with Snow in Canada You may have to much weight on top that causes it to tear. Just be careful. Otherwise You will need to make a Wood Lean-to or Wood Shed. . And then You will be able to park your 4-Wheeler and Trailer in the Shed as well to keep it out of the Winter Weather.

When I was a COBOL programmer (back in the dark ages), we used Westheimer's Principle to gauge time for task completion: 'To estimate the time it takes to do a task: estimate the time you think it should take, multiply by 2, and change the unit of measure to the next highest unit. Thus we allocate 2 days for a one hour task.' :-)

You might save on the wet food by making your own. You can buy yummy cheap cuts. I cook the meat (red meat or chicken) with sweet potato, peas , carrot , zucchini . You can also add whole grain rice, barley if you are not against dogs eating grains. I make one big batch, I divide the food base on 2 day batches and store 1 bag in the fridge and the rest in the freezer.

I love your energy as a couple. Here's an unsolicited hint for easily cutting those cherry tomatoes. Use two lids from deli containers. Put one lid down with the rim facing up, fill the lid with a layer of cherry tomatoes. Cover this with the second lid, rim facing down. Use a sharp knife to cut between the two lids and the tomato are presto....cut in half.

I don't know if you are planning on canning but here is a suggestion: If you have a hill close by, excavate a cave into it with a securely latched door. You can also build an outside oven and cook area. If you are in a Dome house, you will want to do the canning outside because of all the steam created. Get help and do most of your canning over a three day period.

Another great way to preserve cherry tomatoes that might also go with your style … Peter's Tomato Chutney: 1 kg cherry tomatoes, roughly chopped 400 g red onion diced 50 g sultanas 250 g brown sugar 150 ml apple vinegar (or any white vinegar) 1 teaspoon of salt Several grindings of black pepper 4 cm fresh ginger, chopped finely 4 cloves of garlic, roughly chopped 1 red chilli 1 star anise 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds 1 teaspoon of dried myrtle berries (optional) Place all ingredients together in a sturdy pot and simmer for 60 minutes. Then increase to a boil until the chutney develops an amber colour and becomes thick. Pour into sterilized pickling jars and seal. Don’t open for 2 weeks (that’s the only hard part of the recipe!!)

Howdy Guys, this is my first time leaving a comment. I wanted to offer a suggestion. You have both been so successful in doing so much on your own and learning as you go and by trial and error. Why not codify all that amazing experience and the lessons you've learned and write a book? You could tell anyone who wanted to create a similar lifestyle how to go about it, the shortcuts that work, the things you learned simply by doing. I'm about as outdoorsy as Elizabeth Taylor, but I'm sure there are LOTS of people who want to live simply on the land and could benefit greatly from your experiences over the last few years. So write that book! And let me say, I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the dogs! Dogs are the best! I love it when Todd does "Doggy Voice". When Charlie was sick I prayed for that angel and I'm so glad he's better. As someone once said, "Anyone who says money can't buy love never bought a dog." Best wishes!

I'm half way through from watching from the very top!! I am so so so grateful to have been led here all the way from Kara and Nate, Eamon and Bec, and Max and Occy. (I have Vanwives next on my list to binge!!) I wish I discovered you two during the pandemic. While my life has been super linear and following the 'norm', in 2021 my mindset has shifted to a more sustainability and eco-driven life. While i'm now more intentional with my choices, I still have a long way to go and the both of you give me so much inspiration in how you build your lives. I am still in my revenge-travel phase post-covid, ((I do have a house, 2 dogs, a cat, and 3 aquariums with fishies)) I am also starting to look for my own "The Land" and hopefully build an off-grid life with my partner of 9 years. That part of my journey hasn't started yet but you both make it seem so possible and you're dealing with extreme weather and climate. Well anyway, this is long. Didn't think i'd write the four of you a love letter but here I am. Haha! Love you all and I thank the universe for your existence and for your selflessness in sharing your life with us. I'll catch you in the latest video when I finally get to it!

Super congrats on the 100,000 subs Be careful you will break energizer Todd since he was the one actually lifting the wood. Four cords that's nice, now do that about four more times .... honey !! That 4 cords might get you a month. Start saving your cardboard too to help light the stove and get a hand held torch to speed the lighting if the wood stove.

hi again, you can also powder your tomatoes if you want after dehydrating, l just finished making all of my powder tonight, it is great for soups, sauces, stews or what ever even a smoothie. to powder it you need a spice grinder, l dehydrate my tomotoes at 125F, Also another tip, when the tomatoes are done to chrispy, they are a great snack, we call them tomato chips. enjoy
