Big Charity Island

Sailors on the Saginaw Bay have been finding reprieve on Big Charity for thousands of years... Maps dating to the 1600s denote the island as Shawangunk, a Lenape word meaning "in the smoky air". Anyone who has spent time in this little section of the Bay can attest to the "smokiness" or haze on the distant horizons of Lake Huron come summertime. Nowadays, modern lake travelers can still come enjoy the crystal clear waters off this island, and even rent a cabin on the island!
