Congrats on finding the Monk and Daniel Deronda! I collect these but I live in the U.S. where they really weren't distributed so it's quite difficult to find them here. I'm so envious of the "used bookshop culture" y'all seem to have in the U.K. and Ireland.

Margaret Taylor have you tried using abebooks? ☺️

Yes, AbeBooks is one of my favorite websites! I try to look for rare versions there often to see if any new ones are posted. Thanks for the reply!

I have read all of them except Vilette and Portrait of a Lady. North and South was the best I think.

The Monk looks interesting. Will that be difficult to get hold of?

YES VILLETTE. Enjoy :)

They are such beautiful books! I adore collecting classics and there are several which I have many copies of (Pride and Prejudice being the forerunner of the bunch). I read Jane Eyre earlier this and did really love it. But I have heard that Villette may be her best work among those who have a lot of knowledge with her entire works. I also love North and South, by far one of my favorite classics. I'm always up for a classic love story but really enjoy the other discussions within North and South. I'd also recommend Wives and Daughters if you've enjoyed Gaskell in the past! Good luck finding more to add to your collection! =)

Amy Pool I definitely want to read more Gaskell! I like to have a sort of 2-3 year project of reading every novel by a particular classic author. I’m just about to finish Austen and Gaskell is one of the authors I’m considering taking on next. 😊

Did you ever read The Monk. Someone lent it to me in work... yeah... a lot goes on in between those pages

I have always loved Jane Eyre, and I identified it as my favorite book for many years, but as I've gotten older and wiser, I can see many of the problems with the book, and Mr. Rochester gets on my nerves sometimes. Villette is wonderful! I haven't read it for many years though, so I wonder if my opinion of Villette would change upon rereading as my thoughts about Jane Eyre have. North and South is definitely a favorite forever!! I adore John Thornton. He is my soul mate. I did a video including him as one of my favorite classic heroes. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5umeIyHgsuUm8U Happy REading!

Books for MKs what do you mean? I’m older and wiser lol but I love Jane Eyre. Obviously it’s not perfect, which book is? But I fail to see what the problem with it is
@witchf4ce3105 жыл бұрын
Jane didn’t take care of the children of a father lol. If you read Jane Eyre a while ago I would recommend reading it again now because that’s what I did with The Great Gatsby and I enjoyed it and understood it much more.
@LeanneRose5 жыл бұрын
Um I understood the novel, I just simply didn't like it so why would I reread it. Misremembering a somewhat irrelevant detail about it doesn't mean I lack understanding. I have a literature degree where I studied Jane Eyre. 😂😂😂

Leanne Rose uhm what’s with the bitchy attitude? I politely suggested you to read it again because you said yourself you read it a long time ago and it’s happened to me that I appreciated a book and understood much more when I read it years later. Your response was unnecessarily rude. I was literally being nice? Where did I say you lack understanding and need to reread it for that reason? Lmao what? Then I would be calling myself stupid as well for not enjoying The Great Gatsby in high school lol. Talk about getting defensive for no reason.

I am currently reading it, was under its spell because of how entertaining things were in Thornfield! I was already thinking of putting it in my top favorites. But alas! i’ve put the book down ever since she decided to leave it without 1.enough money/resources for board and lodging and basic necessities when going elsewhere 2.enough food for even a 1-day journey! She almost killed herself because of her defiance and “self-respect”! just couldn’t stand her anymore. And since i am a completist, it def feels like work to finish this book
