It's definitely my favourite live version for sure.I did have the album "Without the aid of a safety net" but that seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth, and that's why I'm listening to this track here.

@@crackpot148 Fairly = 'With Justice'. The sentence works just fine.

@@DC-uv3nz Stop wriggling, fairly is being used to qualify a superlative. I don't know if there is unanimity about this version being the definitive version. I agree with you that it is but I know of those who think only studio versions of any piece of music can be considered definitive. This is one of my all time favourite songs and yes, it is the best version by far...in my opinion.

I occasionally come back to these clips as they restore my faith in human-kind. I have everything BC recorded with Stuart. When I speak of BC, it is so personal, it is like talking about me, my past, my feelings, my aspirations, my sadness, my anger. I grew up with BC, older now, and hence I really don't understand a lot of comments. BC saved me when I was 17,when Steeltown came out An awakening to which I never want to forget and always want to embrace each morning.

Not sure why people argue over Big Country vs U2. When U2 first came out, I enjoyed "Boy", "October" and "War". But Big Country's music is close to my heart in a way U2 could never be. I met Stuart and Tony in 1993, nice chaps.

stuart and BC saved me for sure in 85. Underrated? I never go down that path. BC, to me means Stuart, Bruce, Tony and Mark, was unique. We might never see such poetry put to rock again. BC first got me on their 'music, but it was the poetry and humanity. I loved The Crossing, but Steeltown slayed me. I heard Steeltown once and was more dumbfounded than when I heard the Crossing. The band, esp. Stuart, is better live than studio. That is incredible.

I have been listening a lot to Big Country during the lockdown and pandemic to decompress. Music heals you. I remember seeing them in concert in the 80s and they had so much good energy. It has always been uplifting to hear their songs and it makes you want to soar above all of the sadness, stress and all the changes that are going on right now. I’m very grateful for Big Country’s talent. R.I.P. Stuart. Praying 🙏 for your family, fans, and band mates. Your immortal soul lives on forever.

I saw Big Country twice. The first time was probably in the early 80s. They played at the University of Virginia (where I went to college) in Memorial Gymnasium. This brick building was built in the late 1800s/early 1900s. At the time it was built it was the biggest gym in the South of the US. Awesome show; acoustics were awful. Fast forward to approximately 1995/1996. I was working in Georgia; BC played at a venue called the Post Office in Augusta, GA. Very small place, good crowd, not great (several hundred?). I was able to stand just offstage to the right of the band as they looked into the crowd. I was so close I it was ridiculous. One of the great experiences of my youth. Hope the reincarnated band comes to the States sometime in the next decade!

Lancaster Uni on the Steel Town tour. F?cking amazing! Remember the backdrop with all the amps lighting up like a Steel Town as they played this to open. Very moving, hairs on end as I watch this video. Previously saw them at Fleetwood marine hall, a small venue gig added to a sold out Crossing The Fall tour (as in Barowlands ,Hammersmith all of the UK venues Maximum capacity). They made the venue/promoters return 1/4 of the ticket price, as Big Country thought it was to expensive. Seriously talented band very nice people. Big Country are still going, even though Stuart sadly is no more (RIP) also I think Stuarts daughter sings (Kirsty).
