Sorry, this was supposed to be released last Friday but then we found the audio was desynced so we had to rerender the whole thing. I hope it is at all mortally possible to enjoy this on a Sunday instead of a Friday. We will have to see... This one is quite experimental, quite long and drawn out but pretty cozy and with a fun final act for those who enjoyed our last audiolog. I hope you've had a good weekend, and THANK YOU for your time.

I just realized how clever D is. During Kevin's interrogation we learned that the family doesn't have any source of income because Kitten lost his job. But then at the end of this Big D states that he intends to sell/rent Kevin's apartment, something he showed disdain for prior but is doing it anyway. So in the span of one interview he managed to avoid getting arrested, got an ally in the local police department, and got the family a new source of income. This dude is a genius.

I LOVE how the Camarilla cross signifies how suspicious of Big-D the Detective is. It starts small, but gets bigger when he's suspicious, but it starts to fade as Big-D goes on, and it disappears by the time the topic of the cellar comes up. And then it gets HUGE when Big-D f*cks up with Kevin's sister. It's amazing.

Now that's some attention to detail!
@Jokerke12 Жыл бұрын
@Clu Rosencrans Looking at it from that perspective, it does seem more like that the cross' size represents how much trouble they are in rather than the cop's sus level. But on the other hand, Big D's confirmation that they ran into people, people whom the copper surely knows were vampires, would raise or give confirmation to his suspicion that a Masquerade breach has happened. Chapman doesn't have to suspect the family of any wrongdoings to be suspicious of them. If they've done nothing wrong but a Masquerade breach occured they'd need to be eliminated anyway. That or the cross represents how screwed Big D THINKS they are and it isn't indicative of the cop's actual thoughts. After all, he still believes Big D's story when they are arranging his new ghoul bond, even though at that point it should be obvious even to him that the whole thing was a lie.

I love that Big D's inner monologue starts as complete insanity and paranoia. Funny as all hell. Then as you keep watching, it starts to make sense. You start to ask yourself if the cop is truly a Cammy agent and Big D is saving the day. You get to see the world through his eyes. This is some truly incredible writing.
@mr.textwall53272 жыл бұрын
But he still missed that one time Guy sharply inhaled after "Evil dead" moment. Also, hey, his thought process feels natural, incredible in its ability to catch and put together even the smallest hints. As the saying goes, you're not paranoid if you're really being monitored. Personally I'd use a vampires presumption and keep it no matter what. Because Guy could be clean but in that case his boss (who must receive Guy's report) is 90% involved. And even in case he's not it takes little for a secretary or coffee boy or a janitor to skim through papers on boss' table. Then in another, fully controlled police station all the family will have their cases fabricared or their names put on a list of witnesses for some majors case.

Who talks like that; even in jest? He didn't say rank, or job description; as people day to day would maybe say officer, or doctor, or Justice. He said title. Most people would laugh it off, because frankly who is used to that. But a ghoul under the Camarilla would undoubtedly be expected to address any vampire by a title being that they are essentially the bottom of the totem pole. He follows it because its become second nature to him. He blew it as soon as the interrogation began. Also Big D bet all the chips on Black at the end there and it paid off.

This audiolog goes so much into why Big D is such a great Hunter. Although largely played for jokes, Big D was skilled enough to infiltrate a police station multiple times, had the foresight to school his family on how to properly lie to the authorities and what to be aware of when dealing with possible ghouls, was confident in his ability to fight his way out of a police station _with a knife_ , smuggled said weapon into a police station without being caught, has an dagger enchanted with death magicks, and is a skilled enough orator to accurately harmonize a disparate alibi without arousing suspicion until the very end. The guy is a legend, and, given the clues we've seen (Big D's mental oddities and his talking about the path of "Peace" local cops use), we haven't even seen his _actual_ powers.

This episode really highlights why Hunters are antisocial misanthropes who fall out of touch with their fellow humanity. How could you hold down a day job when you suspect that every colleague asking innocuous questions over the water cooler is an agent of the Camarilla trying to sus out breaches of the masquerade? When every innocent question by the worried old lady next door becomes an intense interrogation? The veil has been lifted to you, the realization that the supernatural truly is everywhere, and that every last one of the supernatural critters can and will kill you if they ever find out what you know. Every interaction with a fellow mortal turning into a harrowing test of wits, for even if they are not some agent of hostile supernatural forces, you still do not want to enlighten them to the horrors that lie just beyond the veil of normalcy, to spare them the paranoia and inevitable early grave you are bound for.

If you want to introduce "aha but they did it because they knew", you haven't actually resolved any happenstances of expertise + looking for lost persons but you have added an extra complicating factor where the bikers researched the victims carefully (to get to know them in such detail to know to appear in that location as the missing persons in need of help), before settling on this unusual move being the play rather than any of the myriad other, more reliable ways to take over the house. My biggest hope is that they will do something about Exalted before or after. With how much their animations are improving, it would be criminal to not deliver us some mystical martial arts ass kicking

I live not far from Wells Next The Sea, and you have just reminded me of the Mini Steam Train, now I am sad because it doesn't exist anymore. On a side note, it's really weird for me to have a piece of media set close to where I live and talk about a bunch of places I have been, Like the Great Yarmouth Pirate Golf from a few episodes back and how the water there feels off, because my first thought when he mentioned it was the water, then that is where the conversation went.

The Great and Mighty Kevin, Guy Chapman Big-D becoming best friends via cult initiation is by far my favourite thing to have happened in this series so far that ending feels like they're about to ride off and start a sitcom

Since no one else seems to be talking about it I’m gonna give my appreciation for Guy Chapman here. Seriously, this is such a great character! He is good on his own already as the detective, but when his truth is revealed at the end he is amazing! Not only is it horrifying how you can disguise the horror of his words with comedy, but it’s also the perfect way to showcase how evil vampires can be! And it also goes well into the mind of a drug addict. This guy could literally just stop, something most addicts can’t, he just doesn’t *want* to. And the fact that he doesn’t actually realize the impact of his choices himself! This guy only thinks of the positives of his addiction, even in relation to his family, without even once considering that the cons far outweigh these few pros and will in the end only harm them. The way this is also perfectly conveyed hin his speech is just- AAAAHH! You are so good!

''This guy could literally just stop, something most addicts can’t, he just doesn’t want to'' To be fair, depending on your age, stop drinking vampire blood either makes you age into a feeble old man or die. Some very powerful ghouls capture weak vampires and drink their blood in secession to dodge the worst parts of the blood bond. But you need to be an extremely powerful and influential man to do so. Leader of an top organization dedicated to kill vampires kind of powerful. Like the Society of Leopold.

@@matthewmatthew981 The worst part of being a ghoul, is that you become a willing slave to a vampire. And that's the only con. Everything else is a pro, immortality, super powers, top health. There are ways to overcome this as I explained above, but they are super hard to achieve for anyone but the most powerful mortals.

One detail I really like in this is the symbolism used for Big D's internal monologue with the ankh representing the looming presence of the camarilla and how it gets both bigger and closer the more paranoid Big D is

The fact that Big-D has managed to successfully bamboozle a ghoul even when he was caught oh his lie shows that while he is insane and paranoid - he's NOT as dumb as many people think he is.
