This track is a crash course on golden era hip hop production. Right off the bat I hear tape hiss, tape compression, vinyl noise, and preamp overdrive on his vocal giving his voice a slight rock distortion. Because they were using tape compression they were able to use that guitar sample that would've otherwise been too irritating. It was all these subtle noises that made hip hop sound like a guilty pleasure.
