So half way through the video, as you asked for pointers, here's a few from what I've seen so far. I'll add more in another post once I've seen to the end of I can think of anything. When you fishing with rear drop-offs have the bail arm open. I might be wrong, but I think you had them closed, and the baitrunner on. You want the fish to feel no resistance once it picks up your bait. When using mackerel it's great for casting, and staying on your hook, but it helps the pike unhook itself if you don't get the hooks out of the bait on the strike. It can also prevent a good hook up. Just nick the hooks in the minimum you can to hold the bait on the cast. Try not to bury them. When you unhook that first pike on the video you had your thumb too close to the jaw. Tuck it under out the way. I know from bitter experience that some pike have a tooth sticking out the side where least expected. Believe me you don't want to find out what a struggling pike with a funny tooth can do to your thumb. Sometimes a mobile approach can be better than being static and waiting. Fish for an hour then maybe consider a move. Enjoyed your video so far. You've obvs caught a few so your're doing plenty right. Good luck and look forward to more videos.

Great advice, especially about the thumb, I've a decent scar on mine from finding out the hard way about that

Great vid mate, enjoyed it and have subscribed and hope to follow your progress. My tip that dramitically changed my catch rate is to pop up the dead bait. Not far, just have the tail of the dead on the lake bed and the fish sitting upright. Plenty of vids on here how to pop them up (I like a red poly ball) .........tight lines..............Sardine works best for me!

great vid 👍 could you tell me what bite alarms you use? do the bank sticks come supplied with them?
@freak.fishing3 жыл бұрын
Hey Cian, I use the Delkims and the bank stick dont come with them. Good cheaper alternative is the fox micron x range. If you need anything let me know I should be able to help out.

i've tried the 'big bait for big pike' approach and have caught very little big pike, i find a 5 or 6 inch deadbait way more successful and have had dozens and dozens of scottish pike with smaller baits, even on a 3 inch sprat which can be deadly some days! although most scottish pikers will tell you since the eastern european invasion scottish pike are in decline and have been for many years now, especially in the highlands! 😡

I don't understand why more anglers don't listen to audiobooks or podcasts or something, even if you are relying on sound alarms you can still stick one earbud in... did you really spend the whole day just sitting there doing nothing because that's seriously impressive don't think I could do that

Something about the silence in my point as I fish with someone most of the time so enjoy both the company and solitude. I do have my phone with me
