I can explain his behavior easily, with one simple word: narcissist. Big Ed is a narcissist. They’re getting more common these days. And this man is a great example of one. Seeming confident on the outside but being insecure is a trademark of narcissism. As are many of his other behaviors…
@Kim-Unearthed3 жыл бұрын
They're more common because people stopped disciplining their children then giving them "participation" trophies for everything they do instead of showing them that sometimes they're wrong and sometimes they will fail. People have taught their kids that they're entitled and deserving of everything they want. Our society is BREEDING narcissists.
@mw71653 жыл бұрын
They’re definitely a lot more common these days, that’s for sure. I constantly hear about how rare it is, when I know several narcissistic people (not sure if they have the actual disorder, but they certainly have many and strong traits) and I for sure know at least 2 people with the actual disorder. 4 more, I highly suspect have it. It’s just not diagnosed often because narcissists don’t think they have a problem and the ones that get an actual diagnosis typically are getting treated for something else, when that diagnosis is discovered (like depression or some kind of alcohol/substance abuse).

You’re right… His family keeps telling him he’s great… As long as his mother or daughter doesn’t kick him in the ass, he’ll always think that crying and apologizing will always get him out of trouble and when someone sees through his lies he plays the victim card. I had a boyfriend acting like that, everytime I started talking about something serious he would start crying and because he was such a big and strong guy I was like « oh god… he’s crying… he must have been hurt… that’s cute » but he was just being manipulative… So girls ! If a guy starts crying everytime you complain about something in your relationship or says you’re putting pressure on him, bla bla bla… Run away! I feel like Big Ed plays up his “insecurity” and “heartbreak” to make people feel bad for him so that they (especially women) pity him and pay him attention. My brother had a chick friend who was friends with a guy like that. He was super creepy and constantly bordered on sexual harassment (not always bordered, sometimes firmly stepped over the line) but would disguise his attempts to feel her up as big hugs and stuff bc he was “so upset” and “depressed”. One time they all crashed in a hotel room together and another girl deliberately slept between creepy guy and the friend he liked bc the friend felt more comfortable that way….. come morning, the creepy guy had crawled over the friend in the middle of the night and was spooning and feeling up the girl he liked. Every time she kind of tried to set boundaries and make him back off he magically had a mental health crisis and suddenly needed her to hang out with him to comfort him 🙄 Some guys are just nasty and will exploit anything to get attention and physical interaction- pity can be a great in.

Buff saying he wants one of those braids reminds me of one of my hairdressing stories. I had an older lady come in wanting to cut off over a foot of hair. Now usually when people did this they wanted it to be sent to locks of love, so I asked if that is what she wanted to do. She then told me no she was going to keep it and proceeded to tell me that her husband had died that year and they had cut his hair to... not too crazy but what they had done was put his hair in a ziplock bag and nailed it to the wall and they were going to do the same with hers. That hair stylist is better at acting than Ed. I almost believed that pitying "Awwwww!"... I don't think she buys it either, she's just being a professional in an awkward situation, trying to get that tip.

Little did Ken know, 11 months later, he received the ultimate challenge from Big Ed.

If the hairdresser could have seen his whole face and not his eyes, she probably would have had a much different attitude.

Overconfident people do tend to be insecure though, however I do agree he may be trying to gain some empathy by admitting it.

Big Ed is clinging on to relevance like a tick at this point, and these shows keep feeding his addiction

Amazing how little self-awareness Big Ed has. Why does he think TLC keeps booking him new seasons? Does he seriously think the audiences want to see him succeed? And if he does know that everybody thinks he's such a douche, he could have a little more self-respect and I bet that a relationship, then, would work out better.

At this point, it'd be more surprising if one day, he WASN'T so self-absorbed, overdramatic, and cringey. But then again, it's Big Ed we're talking about here. The possibility of him changing for the better is about the same as him having a neck.

The sound that Big Ed made at 5:27 is the same sound that my family’s dog named Junior (lab/pit bull mix) would make when attempting to communicate with his human family. Since Junior passed this March, unexpectedly hearing that sound made me smile. Ken and Dane, thanks for another great video!
