Qiu love for Chun is blind but truly admiring. He tried to protect her by releasing Kun but after he realize that that won't stop her, he still decided to accompany her in the dangerous/wrong path. Despite knowing he can't have her, he still wish for her happiness by sacrificing himself to let Chun be with the one she love, with Kun. He make sure Qiu is safe before he finally left the world. Sorry for my rant but Qiu's love for Chun is something sorrowful yet beautiful at the same time.

It is one of the stupidest films I have ever seen as it was the passion of romeo and juliet, two inconsequential young people who in an irraiconal passion of two people who barely knew each other, they end up killing themselves. The little marmaind by hans christian andersen has a lesson in letting go of who you are for the love of a stranger. The film is very naive, a passion that can be ephemeral if it ends up practicing many mistakes.

The only time he show care for him is when he got bit by a two-headed snake and when he sacrificed himself. I don't know why but even if the ending is a good one, I just, don't like it... Otherwise the movie is really beautiful though.

It is one of the stupidest films I have ever seen with Little Marmaind (1988). A girl who makes all kinds of mistakes for a stranger she never saw. In Hans Christian Andersen's tale, the mermaid dies in the end as a lesson in giving up who you are for the love of a stranger she has never seen in her life. An idealized passion of those who never saw each other and the director idealized this in the most idiotic and naive way, inconsequential young people who were rational and ended up making mistakes and the director defends it. Aesthetically beautiful film, but empty of content.

I read the comments. She was in love with Kun, and paid her own sacrifices, just like Qui dit for her. Both love are admirable and should be accepted. You can't force someone to love. You can't favor him over Kun and hate Chun. She made the bond between them and stayed true to it - I think from the first time she looked in his eyes. Love is not build upon favors - many of the commenters don't undertsand this.

Agreed. It’s unfortunate and painful that Chun did not love Qiu back but this does not make her a bad person. She cared deeply about him. No one should be forced or pressured to be with someone they don’t love. Qui understood this and that’s why he was never angry at her for not loving him back, just hurt.

That was his motive since the beginning. The soul keeper was old, didn’t want to be left alone with his cats. That’s why he traded Qiu’s soul so he could be the next soul keeper and stay there all alone. The soul keeper was no noble. He just wanted a way out. It would have been better if Qiu died rather than stay all alone trading soul and grow old all alone. And that makes me sad.

Funny fact is. This movie actually got a much worse rating in China than the rest of the world. Mostly because of this main character and exactly what you feel. The most liked comment in the most famous review site was: "We waited for 12 years and got this bitch." The comment got more than 100K likes. Thank you, I also didn't really like Chun's character towards the ending. BTW I heard that Kun X Chun wasn't initially going to be a thing when they first drafted this story and were going more for a pure-platonic guardian-angel thing with them. Though in the end they kind of force slapped that romantic plotline for them just to appeal to the target adolescent audience which backfired miserably. Seriously one of the worst ways to write "romance", and even weirder considering how Chun practically raised Kun as a soul.

I swear i could be fine if this was just an unrequited love but they made Qiu a true simp, all the movie he risked his life and more for Chun (a character so plain that couldn't see that her actions almost wrought the apocalypse to her people and was pretty much unrepentant about them literaly almost everything that happens in this movie is one way or anothers Chun's fault, oh but she made a giant tree grow so everything is forgiven i guess) they made him look like a simp (this is a word that i don't like at all, but truly fits for this). I'm fine with Chun not loving Qiu but since the start of the 2/3rd of the movie Chun actions started having deadly consequences for her world and in no moment, except the very end she seems to aknowledge the danger she's bringing "oh but she was in love" "oh but she used he powers" and? Everything ends the way Chun wants and everybody else should just be glad to be alive? The nerve. It's sad that the characters and plot are so lame when the music, animation, world building are truly beautiful.

Qiu's death was so sad, it hurts a lot that he gave up so much for Chun. There were many scenes that were sad such as Kun's death after he saves Chun but the part that brings a tear to my eye is his little sister after she realizes he isn't coming back. I do not think Chun is a bitch but she is very selfish in taking a lot for granted including Qiu's kindness and all that he did for her. I just think that she needs to mature a lot in that aspect and learn that once something either good or bad happens it can't be undone, no matter how much she may try to correct it. Her intentions to give Kun back his life are acted out on trying to repay kindness back to him since he saved her life in the first place. It's not his fault that he came back to life. Chun is a kind person with good intentions but she shouldn't be arrogant and LISTEN TO SOMEONE WHEN THEY SAY THE CONSEQUENCES ARE SEVERE! I Still love this movie overall, the music is fantastic

A stupid film with less artistic value. In hans christian Andersen's Little marmaind, the serial dies and its prince marries another. The message is that you should never give up who you are for a stranger and abandon your family, A failure that disney committed in changing the story and the message An idiot girl who falls in love with someone she has never seen or spoken to in her life. And it makes crazy things like romeo and juliet that barely spoke, almost provoke a tragedy. The film apologizes for a stupid passion that you have never known in your life, that you don't know who you are. Madame de La Fayette in her books criticizes this overwhelming passion and sme rationality, which risks risking big losses, because of the moments and feelings that can be ephemeral. The girl is a stupid who screwed up for a love that could be ephemeral. He made unreasonable measures.

I still believe that Qui's love for Chun was the only true romantic one and that if Chun had a reflection on who can make her happier and with whom she could be in love forever, that would be Qui, but she doesn't even give him an chance and just because as is typical she believes that a relationship already pre-existing as friendship can not coexist with the romantic, which is a sentimental fallacy for me nowadays. Interestingly, what Chun felt for Kun was more like a crush and a romantically platonic feeling. If Chun onlye slowly think of all that Qui means to her, I'm sure she would fall in love with him but it wasn't until her final sacrifice that she began to weigh him. So in the end Chun has Qui's gift in her chest, she knows that she love him much more than she thought ... but it was too late to even thinking in that future.

I don’t need Chun to love Qiu but at least stop using him. The way she just pushed Qiu to that rat woman AFTER he jumped into the sewer is distasteful. Thank you that's my thoughts exactly. At least Qiu originally had a good reason for develop feelings for Chun as they grew up together and the fact they pretty much raised Kun's spirit together brought them closer together. Though with Chun's obsession with Kun felt way less relateable as I was never much of a fan of the "love at first sight" thing in fairytales since I usually don't have feelings for people unless I really get to know them. It even feels more odd with Chun pretty much as a surrogate maternal figure in a way to look after his soul until he's fully grown, which honestly felt more like some kind of subconscious complex she had for the most part rather than a romantic feelings. Though of course, the writers just had to have Kun return Chin's feelings for her just because of their bond and have some "miracle rebirth romance". Don't get me wrong I am like many rebirth romances as long they have some substance to them, but the way they handled it in this movie felt beyond forced.

The one that really love Chun was with her all the time. But it was an unrequited love. I must had been hard for Qui to sacrifice his life for Chun knowing that his love would never be return. I feel that if Chun knew how Qui felt then this sacrifice would have meant more to Qui. But overall everyone's decision is respect.
