Cold Steel 6" Luzon should have been on this ep. The slim shape keeps the overall package small, and the almost deep carry clip is great. I typically carry it as an inside the waistband, and totes have done so out in public: Lynn Thompson approved.

About the Spyderco Dao, its based on the Chinese broadsword common in kung fu(especially in Wushu and both northern and southern styles of shaolin). If you look up either "Dao" or "Chinese broadsword" you will immediately see where it gets its shape. The sword comes in a couple different forms(all having the same general shape of blade and handle), the ones used in wushu are thin, whippy and very agile and there is often a band of silk hanging from the pommel. The other kinds are more designed for war with a thicker blade capable of cutting through scale armor and heavy enough to inflict damage even through silk which was common in military garb for its famously cut resistant qualities. Some were more decorative and had rings along the back of the blade for rings to attach a flag or banner to. Some more specialized ones have longer straighter handles to allow for two handed chops and cuts for added leverage though the sword was usually one handed Its honestly a really cool sword and fun to play with, almost a polar opposite to the katana in the best ways. The Katana is swift and its movements powerful and focused while the Dao likes to sort of "dance" and flow. Change of tempo(slow to fast then back to slow again) in a sort of whirling motion allows for strikes and parries from awkward angles allowing for it to be hard to predict and sometimes even harder to block than most other swords especially if it is a good balance between hefty and flexible allowing the point to flex inward on a thrust if parried making over parrying sometimes necessary. All this said while I love the idea of a knife built around this concept the knife is more expensive than most actual dao swords which usually dont go over $200USD, I got mine for $70 though it was a wushu style(commonly used by law enforcement back in the day) and those worked fine for dealing with civilians with no armor but for war they would not use this style and would opt for the heavier thicker versions instead(reproductions would still often be cheaper than this knife, the knife is built to be a knife not a sword so its materials and structure are vastly different from the swords which is why its more expensive). I truly love the knife and while I have never owned a spyderco I understand their steel is trustworthy, but that price is just too high for me. Anyways just thought Id share what I know about the knife and what its based on, very cool.

Dallas is like a good ol’ boy and a goofy teenager rolled into one dude. Like a knife version of Jay Leno. I imagine him having a “knife room” at his house just full of knives that all get used and meticulously well maintained. And he walks around in there wearing a Canadian tuxedo just talking about all of his knives to anyone who walks in his front door.

When I was seven, we went out to Arizona to visit my grandpa. While there we attended a giant flea market, and one of the vendors was selling machetes. I begged abs begged my dad to buy me one, but he said I didn’t need it. I said, “It doesn’t matter! It’s a machete!” Later that day I was doing dumb stuff with my brand new machete. Turns out, if you stand a pine cone up on its end on concrete and split it straight down the middle, it pauses briefly before falling in half, just like in anime.
