Even better than that try another line from the same song, the most desperate, painful and beautiful plea to a lover that's ever been set to music, "I can change I swear/ Ah, see what you can do." Search your own life and you'll remember a moment when this line was applicable. Devastating and genius.

I'm jealous of all of Bob's fans who got to see The Rolling Thunder Review in person - I agree with other comments that performances were incredible by all the musicians he chose to compliment his singing. The instrumental solos in this particular song bring up so many emotions making it an incredibly sad love song at the same time. My fav arrangement.

That eerie wailing violin played against the backdrop of those constantly crashing cymbals really starts to whipsaw you. Then there are Bob's long, drawn out often sarcastically rendered lyrics. (You're a big girl all the waaaaaaay). The mournfulness is almost too much to bear. Thankfully those chirpy little acoustic notes remind us that all is not lost. There are fresh seeds being planted in the dead of this terrible winter.

Can you IMAGINE what The Rolling Thunder Review was like - all those WONDERFUL artists travelling with him on the 'TRAIN' - the SPIRIT that motivated them and kept them HIGH - the MUSIC - the CAMARADERIE - the LOVE - an EVENT without par - - before or since. Martin Scorsese made a great documentary about it that's pretty mind blowing.

You're right, this is the best live version of this (or any?) song. THe 1976 RTR was so much more emotional than 1975, and the playing by his band of outlaws was out of this world. Even the wrong notes were right!
@davecespedes56745 жыл бұрын
You know what's funny? People usually prefer the 1975 leg of the Rolling Thunder Revue. Personally I think both are fantastic and I can't choose just one. I mean, the versions of It Ain't Me Babe and Isis in 1975 were fucking amazing but this version of You're A Big Girl Now and Shelter From The Storm (which are from the second leg) are also extremely majestic. That's why I think this might be one of the finest periods of Bob's carreer (from 1974 to 1977)

TEARS FILLED MY EYES .WHEN THEY CAME IN AS THE DUST WAS WASHED AWAY , WITH MY TEARS OF APPRECIATION SWEET SMELLS OF ALABASTER FILL THE AIR AS OUR SENSES CAME ALIVE TO YOUR TRUTH ALIVE IN THE DOORWAY OF TIME.AS OU TURN TO SEE , WHO WAS LEFT OUT THERE YOU LEFT A KEY WITH A NOTE , WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SOUND .JESUS

@@TheMrTslab - How and WHERE you CAME IN seems more IMPORTANT as you get "older" I was born in England in my grandmother's home - but I was RE-BORN ( had the 'LAST RIGHTS' ) at St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank, CA. I'd had a brain hemorrage. A MAGICAL occasion - I met my guardian angel - he said "Do you wanna GO ON or do you wanna GO BACK?" Meaning - go on to that amazing LIGHT you see in front of us - OR - go back to your family on earth? - 2 beautiful daughters in my hospital room, waiting for me to regain consciousness.- I had been UNCONSCIOUS for THREE DAYS and they didn't know what to do. I regained consciousness and there was a great CELEBRATON. But I discovered that I had "lost"my LEFT BRAIN (from the aneurism) and was now functioning with just my RIGHT BRAIN. What a REVELATION ! Changed my life. I consider myself REBORN - like Bobby said : "DIED and WAS REBORN and then MYSTERIOUSLY SAVED". Born, the first time, in 1943 - that makes me 76 now - in Earth terms - but I was REBORN in October 1998 -that makes me 21 now and I'm having an AMAZING life this time around!
