The Big Happy was designed by Britt for older or bigger surfers (like himself) that value performance. At 6’6 and age 52, Britt knows his strength and mobility are not what they used to be-but he doesn’t want to jump up to a hybrid or midlength just yet. He still wants to rip. To help surfers like him shred at the highest levels possible, CI’s new Big Happy design features:
• Lower entry rocker
• Generous thickness forward
• Tapered rails
• Gentle single concave
Surf better. Be happy.
Find Big Happy at your local surf shop now, or you can see more details and the stock dims here: cisurfboards.c...

Just got the 6,4. Caught all waves I paddled for. Feels dynamic like a smaller shortboard. For me 6,4/85kg it works great!! Thank you!

Good to hear your experience. The waves around me are generally pretty gutless and mushy. Does it pickup waves like this or need a bit of steepness and power?

Ive been shaping my boards like that for almost twenty years because Im over 225lbs. If you are a big guy but still want to ride a short board, you can still do it. Make it 3" thick, 21" wide and 6'8" plus with a short board outline. Dont be scared to go thicker and wider. The rails are easily tapered for short board dimensions and your heavier weight can easily throw the board around. Tell your shaper you want a nice short board design with thicker, wider, and longer dimensions. Make sure to thin down the tail to average thickness or else the tail will have too much float, the fins wont grab and the tail will slide out. If you are worried about the weight of the board go with epoxy. They tend to be lighter.

@@paulfranzen7810 Ive been backyard shaping for on/off 30 years. I started as a young thin guy riding potato chips. I grew into a big guy who still rides short boards but thicker, wider and taller. I have no idea about volume either. I just make something that works.

I am 6'4 205 and I got the 6'4 stock board and its my new favorite board. Its not super responsive (yet) but it paddles really well and is quick down the line. I am going to play with fins and see if I can loosen it up a bit. I feel like there is a lot potential in this board (wide variety of conditions) I surf shitty SB/Goleta waves most of the time. To be honest, I thought this was another CI Happy-Hype board (I have the Two Happy and had the Happy Everyday), but I can honestly say its a fun board. Stoked I took a chance on it.

Just as a bigger surfer that once was a tiny grom on lil toothpick boards, I’d say surfing/surfers over 185 pounds it’s like a different sport then what the other guys are doing and surfing. Your equipment and dimensions really matter, to suit the bigger size but also need a board that still maneuvers well in the pocket. I’ve had a lot of boards that can paddle great but surf in the pocket like a turd. Cool to see Brett try dialing in the bigger and older dudes!

I'm 6' 220lbs, i ride a 6.4 36.6 fever mostly. i find that 6.2 low entry rockers fit into most waves, while 6.4s even with the fevers medium-agressive rocker - do not. id really go 6.2 max length, and then just wider if you need to, for a daily driver.

I’d be keen on this board. Would I be right in saying it looks like an easier version of the original Happy to ride with similar shape, tail, volume forward and rocker. Or is it a totally different design?

Stoked to see this board on the market, but I find the sizing so odd - it's such a long board still for its volume. A 6'4" is 37L but the next size up is 6'6" being 40L. This seems odd to me when a Happy Everyday board at 6'4" is 41L...
@austinkittrell1538

the happy everyday is a performance groveler, this border is more like the happy but for the big boys and is supposed to work in bigger waves. look at the wave range on the ci website

@wesleychapman9001 5 ай бұрын
@@austinkittrell1538 valid for sure on the bigger waves portion (not sure I'd say the happy everyday is a performance groveler, I'd say Rocket Wide more so) but the volume to height still seems odd to me when compared to a HED vs. BH. It's not a big issue for long point breaks but beach breaks the extra length would be a liability for tight pocket surfing. Maybe one day I'll get to try it out and compare it to my HED. I just can't justify having both for the time being.

Everything can be used as a step up, depending on wave type and the surfer. Boards will always have their characteristics and not all bigger waves need more rocker or super pulled in tails.
