Opie probably doesn't regret that move at all. Ant got himself fired and ruined the show and Opie was already resentful at him due to Sirius management giving him constant scoldings over the nonstop race rants. He clearly disliked Ant as a man and colleague and felt like he had a chance to do a show without dealing with him considering Ant did it to himself and by extension, everyone else who worked on O&A. Obviously, we're fans who like Ant, but I really doubt that Opie felt he could even go to bat with any success anyway. Ant really blew it and the Twitter incident wasn't a one time big screw up; by that point it was the last straw. Even at the time, I had to turn O&A off when Ant went on another unfunny, vitriolic race rant and hope it'd end sooner than later because it was unbearable. Then you know Opie was sitting there, playing vidya on his phone, and resenting the fact that he's going to get an earful from management yet again over it while on a show he felt was tugged away from him anyway.

Kevin Smith would have put them on in a second but I think Opie wanted to save talk radio and it just didn't work evolution took over and radio basically died. The climate made the O&A show have to be independently owned and operated for it to actually work.

@ dont misunderstand me sirius xm is about to die. if stern quits its over. but O&A could still be on there today. the smart move would have been a new show in podcast format somewhere else like you said it would have longer legs but they could have still been on satellite. their days on terrestrial were over full stop. smodcast is an interesting suggestion the boys were tight with kevin smith back in the day. smith is a little too hollywood these days to accept ant and his antics but they could have grandfathered him in and he could clean up his act. or they all three of them could have made compound successful

It totally was. I heard the exact show it happened on a couple of months ago. They were just doing random roasts of other morning shows once in a while, then they were riffing on it one day during particularly terrible morning zoo type clips and a random caller calls in and sets up the entire Jocktober premise for them, including the name Jocktober and doing a different show every day for the entire month. And they promptly jump on it and the rest is history. But obviously Sam was already doing all the heavy lifting by listening to the shows and mining them for clips to edit.

If that is truly the case, and he "hates" the name Opie, perhaps Opie should create the Gregg Hughes show... therefore dumping the horrible name, distancing himself from the past, and move forward with a clean canvas to create something new... and don't give me the brand name of Opie, it is only bringing in about 68 people. It's impossible for him to spin records on FM. The only other option is to just stop and he's too much of a narcissist to do that.

Opie is the guy in high school who made the big play in the big game still wearing his football jacket in his 40s. He's looking for the glory days of WNEW. His wasn't even happy at XM. There were never enough subs to the show. That's why they made the huge mistake of splitting show between CBS and XM.

As I see it if Opie quits whatever this is he’s doing now he’s either remembered for being on the O&A show which either ended in ‘02 or ‘14, he’s remembered for getting fired from SiriusXM for continuing to do something HR told him to quit doing, or he’s remembered for this decline he’s been on since Anthony got fired from SiriusXM. Opie has had 10 years to prove that he is or was the radio mastermind he seems to think he was. He had a couple of years with the Opie & Jim show. Depending on when you ask Opie, after sitting around not signing his one-year contract he either got the morning slot taken from him or he chose to go to the afternoon slot where he sat around with Vic, Sherrod, and whoever else just talking about whatever. Then he got fired from SiriusXM. Then he got picked up by Westwood One to do a podcast that didn’t even last a year, probably because it was a continuation of what he was doing at SiriusXM when he got fired only at a noisy bar. Opie, if you’ve got something great in you, it’s time to let it out. Ironically, the phrase “$#!+ or get off the pot!” comes to mind. It’s been almost 11 years since you’ve had this chance to reinvent yourself that you’ve said you wanted since at least 2000 and not only have you failed but you haven’t even sounded like you’re that interested in doing this. Wanna quit talking about Anthony & Jim? Quit responding to questions about them and using their names in your videos titles. If you really want to keep,a show going keep doing a show but sound like you’re at least a little interested in what you’re talking about. Are we sure Opie isn’t having issues with substances and this is just pure bitter Opie we’ve got?

I don't understand why Opie doesn't cobble together a studio (or just rent one) and do a bonafide podcast since he feels entwined to address these things literally every single time anyway. Even when he scored the Westwood deal, he refused to do a real show and instead stuck to a formula that looked like amateur hour from the 90s with the bum audio, no studio setup, and making the guests hold mics on a couch or wherever else If he's a real deal radio pro as he often reminds us, how he can totally do a show on his own to some success, and clearly has the money and time, then it's perpetually confounding why he won't even *try* to do something even akin to Ant's old Compound Radio setups that looks halfway credible than bootleg livestreams from a phone. I don't get it.
