If I went to El Centro I wouldn’t like California, either. That said, I agree with you that there is much to recommend with the Pacific Northwest (where I am originally from). I hope Dari will check out Oregon and Washington some time. Hopefully we can at least agree on this: West coast is best coast. 🙂

As a native Californian i discovered you just after the war started when i began watching Russian KZbinrs, trying to understand the Russian people. I accomplished that and now 2 and 1/2 years later you are the only one i stiill watch. Im so glad you find California amazing. It is our 3rd largest by area, richest(5th largest economy in the world), most populated, most diverse population and geography, best weather(warm and no hurricanes or tonados), cleanest air from the Pacific ocean), etc, etc Ive been to all these places you went and so many more that i hope you will see here in the future, especially the beautiful coastal redwood trees. Just really love your international personality! Gives me hope for the world's future. Again, welcome to my State, California Dari! And please tell us more about your friend KC. Thanks for not leaving out the people living on the LA streets. It is a complicated issue and will take a sustained effort and commitment from people who address all the reasons that drive it. Glad to hear you are coming back some time in the future. If you get to do a long stay (working or studying) I think you'll enjoy just how diverse you LA region is. If it's just a few days I would recommend Griffith Observatory for the views at sunset.

Fun fact, in the 1980s, Clint Eastwood was Mayor of Carmel by the Sea. As a native Californian, I think central California is the most beautiful part of the state. You really should try to take a tour of Hearst Castle. It is a bucket list type thing to see. I recommend the sunset tour. (Edit: Always get the Double-Double at In-N-Out. The single burger is lacking.)

The tacos in California are more like Mexican street tacos. Tex-Mex is a totally different food, so it's another type of taco to try. There are also many types of barbeque to try, Texas barbeque is different from other types of barbecue. I won't try to start a war, but it's interesting to try different regional barbeques. If you make it to the DFW area, I'd be happy to show you some local options. It's not the most scenic destination, but there are some local attractions which are interesting.

Some other great places to consider on your next trip to California: - Devil's Postpile National Monument - This is not that far from Lake Tahoe, which I also recommend. It is one of the most interesting places I've seen. It is a collection of tall basalt columns stacked next to each other, which kind of look like dense bare trees from a distance. They're about 50-60 feet high. They're actually giant basalt crystals standing on end. You can walk around on top of them, and they're pentagonal and hexagonal, so they look like tiles. There also is a big, very tall waterfall about a 2 mile hike away (Rainbow Falls). - Since you said you wanted to visit Griffith Observatory, consider the Mt. Wilson Observatory in the San Gabriel Mts above Los Angeles. You get a great view of the Los Angeles area. They give a presentation inside the facility which describes its history. It is a very famous place, as this was the place Edwin Hubble first observed that all the galaxies are moving away from each other, thus indicating that the universe is expanding. You also can see the "temperature inversion" phenomenon, where you learn that all of the LA smog is trapped below around 4000 feet (the observatory is at around 7500 ft, IIRC). The air up there is so clear that the observatory still is very usable today despite all of the pollution down below. Make sure you go on a day that the facility is open. - Sequoia Natl Park - You said that you wanted to go here anyway. You've never seen trees until you've seen these behemoths! They actually make the giant Redwoods, which often grow alongside them, look kind of puny by comparison. - Bristlecone Pine Forest - This one isnt for everyone and it's very far away from practically everything else, very high up on the other side of the Sierra Nevada Mtns. But these are the oldest living things on Earth, up to 4800 y/o. They dont look impressive because they grow very slowly and never get more than about 15-20 ft high. They are very twisted and gnarly and the older ones are mostly dead wood. But I found them very fascinating and well worth the trip.

Read up.) Whiskey a GoGo perhaps. Maybe the Getty Museum, Natural history museum at La Brea tar pits -kind of unique. Apple headquarters Cupertino (You need an in though. Have heard that Carmel by the Sea is a "place to visit". Used to be be more in touch with some of my relatives in S Calf. but have long lost track of them. ( the Cameron's and some Gantz's ) My mom's father and my grandmother used to drive across the entire USA to visit my uncle in Pasadena to attend the Rose Bowl Parade and stay with my uncle throughout the winter. Used to watch the Rose Bowl on TV hoping to see my grandfather and mother but we never saw them. Never been to San Diego but probably should have looked into moving there in my mid to late 20's to find work. Have heard that lt is one of the few sane places left to live in S Calf. S. Calf. weather is hard to beat. Yes, its wall to wall cars there along with wall to wall people but there are a few nice places left. The mountains rising off of the basin floor is breath taking and the desert east of mountains is vast and very flat. The desert is breath taking at first due to its size but it soon turns to boring. At least you didn't include the desert in your video. Your video pretty well sums up S Calf with th e good & the bad. Visiting the Hearst Mansion and the Winchester Manson ( if its in Calf. It was built by the founder of Winchester fire arms) along with Universal Studio my have added some extra flare to the video.

Loved the video of California! It brought back so many wonderful memories of our trip about 20 years ago . We flew to San Francisco , & hubby did 2 days of business in San José, then we drove to Hearst Castle for a tour ,then to LA where we saw Rodeo Drive, & took a double decker tourist bus tour and saw Grauman’s Chinese Theatre & the stars on the Hollywood walk of fame, and also saw the HollyWood sign. The next day we drove to Monterey and visited the famous Monterey Aquarium, after lunch we drove to the famous Pebble Beach Golf course and Carmel . The next day we drove the Pacific Coast highway , but we left so early that the fog off the ocean was SO thick we could not see the beautiful Pacific coast of Big Sur. ☹️ So sad we saw very little because of the darn fog! We drove to La Jolla, and saw a fabulous sunset from a park bench beside the ocean . The next day we drove to San Diego where we went to the famous San Diego Zoo. We visited the famous Hotel Coronado that we’d seen in movies, and a few US Navy Ships in port . What a great trip we had,and your video brought back such great memories of many locations we saw! I think it is strange how everyone coming from overseas on vacation doesn't stop to check out Hearst Castle. On a clear day you can see for miles up and down the unspoiled coastline. Crazy to think that all that unspoiled land was once owned by one man. I used to ride my Waverunner from Dana Point to Oceanside and I always saw dolphins swimming up and down the coast, also a couple of pilot whales.

@@DariStep It is 5 minutes north of Cambria, on PCH. Hearst Castle, or "La Cuesta Encantada", its official name, was built between 1919 - 1947. It sits atop the Sant Lucia Mountain Range overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Even though it was built in the early 1900's it is still very beautiful. I will not tell you anymore, you have to go and see it for yourself. If you decide to go, stay in Cambria, San Simeon is closer and cheaper, but the rooms are dated.

I grew up in California and it was the best time of my life. Carmel by the Sea is home to the iconic actor Clint Eastwood of the spaghetti Westerns fame. He served there as mayor in the 1980s. You missed one of the most incredible sights in Monterey: the lonely cypress tree against the sea on the cliffs. Santa Barbara has a coastal vibe. The University of California is there and I did my thesis work there. If you want to escape crowded LA, its worth the drive! LA has the Hollywood Walk of Fane, Rodeo Drive, Universal Studios and the LA Zoo. My old haunt of Long Beach to the south, has the Queen Mary, that ended its transatlantic travels on its final arrival there in 1967. Don’t forget neighbouring Orange County, home to Disneyland and the Disney California Park. So much to see and do and you can’t explore everything California in one visit! I’m listing the highlights! Fantastic video with amazing and beautiful views! And drone shots. Very well edited! Here's a few tips. Burger is pronounced BRRGRR. (BRR is what we say when we are cold, GRR is how a dog growls.) If you are swimming in the ocean and spot a real shark, the last thing you want to do is panic and make a big splash. That attracts the shark;s attention. The best thing you can do is calmly swim away under the water as if you are a shark. If the shark gets too close, punch it hard on the tip of its nose. This will usually chase it away.

Hey Dasha! You started in Nevada so I hope you got a chance to experience the excitement of Las Vegas; if not, there's always next time. You captured the stunning Pacific Coastal Highway, Big Sur, San Diego, LA, and so much more. It truly looks like you embraced all the beauty that California has to offer, especially the surf, sun, and open sky. My only regret is that you didn't have the entire summer to soak it all in! I'm sure you'd be a natural in the surfing scene. I love driving into LA from say Anaheim after midnight because you see the city of lights. It truly takes your breath away, much like when you saw The Golden Gate or Bixby Creek bridge. I am so happy your dreams are coming true! 🩵

The train from San Diego to Los Angeles is really great, in some cases you are like 20 yards (20 m) from the ocean! The best ride is to take that from San Diego to LA, and then get on Coast Starlight and ride it to Seattle....from Oxnard to San Luis Obispo you get amazing ocean views, for about three hours, then it's desert and forests as you go up to Seattle! Coast Starlight takes 36 hours all the way up to Seattle. You can pay for a bedroom on it if you want, they have half size ones and full sized ones, the full sized one has a bed that holds two people, and it has a toilet and shower right there in the room! 🙂 In both cases you get three meals per day included in the price, cooked by a chef on the train. And there is more food available in a cafe, but you pay for the extra food. 🙂

Hey Dari, we need to talk about your problem. It's a great problem and I have been enjoying seeing your problem video after video. The big question is, with so many, does it require a big suitcase? I know, I left you hanging 😀😀, but I never seen so many different styles of sunglasses, all of them seem to fit the mood and location where you wear them! Maybe you can get Sun Glass Hut to sponsor one of your videos! Also, it is nice to see again, the places I have visited in San Diego from your perspective. Great place, but so expensive. I know you tried the local tacos, but for the very best, you need to go deeper and away from the downtown area (OMG the best)!!! Too bad you could not meet up with SVETLANA FROM RUSSIA. She was down the block in Ventura, so close to your Santa Barbara stop. Maybe next time. As always, your video was very nicely done!

Yes, Shake Shack and others have a bigger burger. In N Out is cheaper though. I get a single when I'm not very hungry (who needs that much when you've got fries and a shake anyway). But you can get a Double-Double for less than a single at the other places. And you missed out on getting it with grilled onions...always get grilled onions.

I think i could live in one of those little towns Dari and i never thought i would say that after watching some other video`s on California, its a shame it get`s a lot of negative press nowadays as it looks an amazing place but the prices $26 for a breakfast (it did look nice though) I've just booked a flight to Alicante for that price £20 which is about $26, but well done for getting out and about showing us other places in America you could have easily been lazy and just stayed in New York blogging ...make everyday count that`s Dari`s moto 😍

Yeah there's a couple huge landslides on highway 1 right now! There is a public transit bus that normally takes you down through most of the Big Sur area on highway 1, but because of those landslides, they have temporarily halted service. They think it will be at least summer 2025 when it is fixed. It's hard because it's a narrow road, and in those two places, the road got completely covered in rock and sand! 😲 The bus ride is really good because you don't have to drive, you can just look out the window at the amazing views. I have taken that bus down a couple times 🙂 There is a type of tree that only grows in the Monterey Area called Monterey Cypress! Those are the ones at Point Lobos State Park, near Carmel, and that grow in squiggly lines! You surely saw them. 🙂 There was a company here in Silicon Valley that was named after those trees, called Cypress Semiconductor, but they got bought by Infineon. 🙂

I hate to break it to you Dari, but nowadays everywhere in the world has its homeless encampment, even small places like Quebec City, or big cities like Montreal, Paris, etc or countries where it is more hidden like Japan and South Korea, but housing insecurity and homelessness is a global problem, and as a world traveler, you need to be well aware of that. It's just usually in areas where it's not so easily noticeable to the regular tourist, for economic (tourism revenue) reasons.
